A rep for the Billboard Music Awards has said that “finalists and winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data and Next Big Sound.”

So, there you have it! The winners are based on data, so the star in each category that gets the most listens is likely going to win!
