Producer Defends Casting Kevin Spacey in New Italian Movie

This week kicked off with the big news that Kevin Spacey would be returning to the big screen in a new movie, L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio (The Man Who Drew God).

Since the announcement, there has been a lot of backlash about casting the disgraced House of Cards actor, who was sued for sexual assault, and is still facing accusations as the years go on.

Now, producer Louis Nero is speaking out and defending the choice to cast Kevin in the movie.

Louis spoke with Entertainment Weekly and stated that the sexual misconduct accusations against Kevin were not an issue.

“In Italy, we don’t know details on everything, so we don’t speak about what we don’t know about,” he told the magazine. “I cannot speak about these things. I only know that Kevin is a great actor. That was my concern, and no more than that.”

The movie will be set in 1950s Italy and tells the story of a blind man named Emanuele who has the gift of drawing portraits of people in front of him by hearing the sound of their voice. Emanuele meets a young girl of African descent and becomes “like a grandfather to her,” Louis adds, “It does not involve pedophilia, as I’ve read in the media. This is wrong.”

Kevin will play a detective with a connection to Emanuele.

“He was a very easy, easy man [to deal with],” Louis adds about working with Kevin thus far. “Both Franco [Nero, lead and director] and I think Kevin is one of the best actors of a generation. We don’t want to go into the private matter. He’s still a great actor.”
