NBC Shuts Down 'Ultimate Slip 'N Slide' Game Show For This Gross Reason

NBC has stopped production on one of its’ upcoming game shows set for a summer premiere.

Titled Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide, the show takes Wham-O’s iconic backyard waterslide game and transforms “into a real-life water park full of gigantic slippery rides with the chance to take home a big cash prize,” according to a press released.

People is reporting that the show has completely stopped after an outbreak of giardia, which in straight forward terms is explosive diarrhea.

It stopped after a crew member on the set in Simi Valley, Calif., tested positive for giardia, a microscopic parasite that, when swallowed, causes diarrheal disease.

The shutdown began on June 2, as producers were made aware of the positive test.

Samples from various areas of the set – including a well, pond, slide pool, water truck and restroom sinks – were all negative for giardia, the results of additional testing in the set’s surrounding area were positive.

The Wrap first reported the news about the shutdown, and a source said that “up to 40 crew members fell violently ill.” It’s not known for certain just how many were affected.

“The health and safety of everyone on our set is our number one priority, so out of an abundance of caution we have made the decision to stop production of Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide at the current location,” a representative for Universal Television Alternative Studios – who is producing the show for NBC shared. “We are in the process of determining next steps in order to complete production.”

At the time, only a week of scheduled production was left on the series.

Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide is set to premiere on August 8 after the Olympic Summer Games’ closing ceremony. It will then go to its regular time slot, Mondays at 8/7c after that.
