H.E.R. Wants To Be An EGOT Winner By The Time She's 30

H.E.R. has big ambitions of fulfilling her EGOT status.

“My mom was my date,” H.E.R. recalled of the experience at the recent Oscars ceremony. “Angela Bassett was sitting next to us, and my mom was excited to meet her and Tyler Perry and all these people. I was just happy to be there.”

Although, she admitted that she “almost forgot that I had a chance to win [...] They played the clips [from the films], my heart was beating fast, and they announced my name … and everything stopped for a hot second, and there was craziness going on in my head.”

“I’m thinking of the doubt I’d had, I’m thinking of my mom sitting next to me, I’m thinking of the movie and how important it was — everything was going through my mind at once. And then … I didn’t prepare a speech. So I was like, ‘Oh crap, I have to go up there and say something.’”

If you recall, H.E.R. picked up her first Oscar, Best Original Song, for “Fight For You,” which was featured in Judas and the Black Messiah.

After winning the award, H.E.R. revealed that she now has a goal in mind to get a Tony and Emmy as well, fulfilling her EGOT status.

“I ain’t gonna put a deadline on it,” she joked, but then added that it might happen “before I’m 30. I’ve got seven years.”

H.E.R. won her first Grammy in 2019, and picked up another at the 2021 ceremony.
