Nathalie Emmanuel Talks About Lack of Opportunity for Black Actors in England

Nathalie Emmanuel is opening up about the lack of opportunity for Black actors in England.

The 32-year-old British actress, best known for her work in Game of Thrones and the Fast & Furious franchise, says that so many actors have to go the United States to get jobs.

“The British industry hasn’t always embraced us,” Nathalie told Essence. “So many Black mixed people like myself have come out to America because the opportunities just weren’t here for us. What’s happened is a lot of talent has been lost to the states.”

Nathalie noted that there are still diversity issues in America, but the film industry is bigger there so there are more opportunities.

“I kind of just took a risk like I guess I’m going to try and I’m really really proud of that and the fact that the universe has decided Nathalie, this is going to happen. It’s surreal. I pinch myself regularly,” she added.
