The performance, held at the Davies Symphony Hall, is a benefit for Paul Newman’s Hole In The Wall California Camp, The Painted Turtle; a recreational camp and family health care center for children suffering from life-threatening diseases.

The 34-year-old actor was joined by fellow thespians Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Billy Crystal, Tom Hanks and Casey Affleck (pictured below).

Joaquin Phoenix Album in the Works

Joaquin Phoenix is creating an album with Tim Burgess of the English alternative rock band The Charlatans, reports Billboard.

“Once [Joaquin] learnt guitar [for the Johnny Cash film Walk The Line,] he found that he had quite a lot of demons inside himself that he wanted to expel through music,” says Burgess.

“All the tracks that me and [Charlatans' manager Alan McGee] worked with him on were brilliant,” adds Burgess. “But I think he just keep scrapping everything or re-doing everything. I’m sad to say that I think it’s one of those records that may never come out, to be honest with you.”

“It’s an on-going thing,” he continues. “I’m trying to get Alan to force him to put it out at the moment, but I don’t know whether it will [get released].”

Joaquin Phoenix is Speechless

Joaquin Phoenix accepted the award for Favorite Leading Man during Tuesday’s People’s Choice Awards despite the writers’ strike.

In a taped acceptance “speech,” the 33-year-old actor used cards to get a thank-you message across.

His funny cards read, “I’m speechless without the writers. Seriously. But in my own quiet way, I want to thank the millions of fans that voted for me for favorite leading man.”

Joaquin mumbled a quick “thank you” at the end of his printed message.

Joaquin Phoenix @ ‘We Own the Night’ Premiere

Joaquin Phoenix is slick in silver at the NY premiere of We Own the Night presented by The Cinema Society at the Chelsea West Theater on Tuesday.

The film has garnered a mediocre 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Here are some highlights from the reviews:

“Adequately acted and flecked with the required quota of action to satisfy genre fans, pic recalls numerous good police dramas of the 1970s, but mostly in superficial ways that bring nothing new to the table.” — Variety

“[Director] James Gray again tackles his familiar family themes again within an overly familiar cops-gangsters genre.” — Hollywood Reporter
