Superman In France

Superman Returns is still currently the #2 box office hit in US theaters after more than a week and a half into its debut. The movie stars young stars, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and Brandon Routh as Clark Kent (aka Superman).

Except for the occasional cheesy lines between the two characters mentioned above, the movie was surprisingly good and entertaining (IMO, Hollywood has been butchering most comic-to-film releases).

Superman Returns Review

WOW WOW WEE WAA WAA! From the moment I saw the trailer last month, I knew Superman Returns was going to be a fantastic film. (Conversely, during the same week, I was severely disappointed in a 7-minute clip released for X-Men 3--and that movie wound up being terrible.) And, before you could say kryptonite, Bryan Singer's latest was boasting rave reviews from Variety, Time, Newsweek, and The Hollywood Reporter. Will Superman Returns live up to expectations at the box office? You betcha.

UP, UP AND AWAY! The hot new Man of Steel Brandon Routh is a dead ringer for the young Christopher Reeve, but less steel and more soul. Kate Bosworth brings a softer side to the edgy Lois Lane we're used to. And Kevin Spacey, well, was born to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor. Or any other maniacal villian for that matter.

SHHHHHHH! It's hard not to get riled up when John Williams' theme music cranks through the speakers. You're bound to get goosebumps when it hits crescendos but the two best scenes of Superman Returns actually took place in dead silence: 1) After saving the planet from a 'ginormous growing kryptonite crystal island' gobbling up Earth, an unconscious Superman hurtles back to Earth. Dead silence. Heart tug. 2) Lying in a hospital bed with shards of kryptonite embedded into his skin, a critically injured Superman is visited (and kissed!) by Lois Lane and her son. Dead silence. Heart tug.

DUN DUN DUN! Comics-obsessed dweebs can rest easy. Superman Returns definitely comes close to matching up with last summer's superhero film Batman Begins (barring Katie Holmes). Plus, there's much to look forward to. Executive producer Chris Lee has confirmed all of the actors "are signed on for three films." Will I see Superman Returns again? YES! IMAX 3D, HERE I COME!

Brandon Routh was spotted signing a few autographs this past Monday at LAX airport en route to NYC, accompanied by his long-time girlfriend Courtney Ford. The first official showing of Superman Returns hits theaters June 27 @ 10PM EST and I. am. so. excited. Here's a new candid picture of Iowa-native newcomer Brandon Routh (looking like Clark Kent?) at the airport with his girlfriend of two years, indie actress Courtney Ford (age ?). The couple first met at "Lucky Strike", where Routh was working as a bartender. To the right is Brandon and Courntey at WonderCon 2006 back in February 2006 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, CA. The first showing of Superman Returns hits theaters June 27 @ 10PM EST. The Krypton Factor

"That is raw!" says Brandon Routh, the star of Superman Returns, staring in dismay at the undercooked hamburger he has been served at a Sunset Boulevard bistro. And the irresistible metaphor looms: The 6'3", square-jawed Routh, 26, is in many ways your classic Hollywood tenderfoot, potential grist for the town's cruel mill. Raised in Norwalk, Iowa (Mom is a second-grade teacher, Dad, a carpenter), he modeled briefly and bartended before getting bit parts on One Life to Live, Gilmore Girls, and Will & Grace.

Yet it was this dropped-from-the-sky quality that appealed to Superman's director, Bryan Singer—the fourth attached to Warner Bros." fraught, decade-long venture, during which Nicolas Cage, Brendan Fraser, Josh Hartnett, and Ashton Kutcher were up for the tide role. "I wanted an unknown because Superman is larger than any actor," Singer says. "And a famous actor comes with baggage." Indeed: He admits that Routh's sometimes uncanny resemblance to the late Christopher Reeve factored significantly into his decision.

"Stepping into those shoes, there's tons of pressure," says Kate Bosvvorth, the new Lois Lane. "This was Brandon's first taste of the movie industry, and he was so sweet, Very innocent."

But Routh—a self-professed homebody who has an endearing Clark Kentish stammer, a longtime girlfriend, actress Courtney Ford; and understandable anxiety about which project to pick next—seems primed to embody the Man of Steel for a new generation, thanks to the ministrations of two personal trainers, a nutritionist ("Eggs are my Kryptonite!"), a movement specialist, and an acting coach he hired himself. "It paid dividends, just in my being grounded," he says. And he promises that his Superman goes beyond homage to Reeve, though "I had his voice in my head," Routh says. "There were times when I would go, Did that sound too much like Chris? But nobody ever yelled 'Cut!' because of it.

Superman Returns in 'EW'

Brandon Routh, 26, takes the cover of Entertainment Weekly April 14, 2006. Superman Homepage reports, "Routh even knew that Superman did not possess the power of flight in his original comic book adventures. [Bryan] Singer reveals that the interior of the new Daily Planet offices is based on the current offices of New York's Daily News - which is yet another homage to the original 1978 film, whose Daily Planet building exteriors were actually the New York Daily News building." Superman Returns drops Friday, June 30, 2006. All I have to say about this cover is... SNAKES ON A PLANE!

Superman Returns

There's a picture of Clark Kent walking with his luggage back to the Daily Planet after being away for a few years. There's one of Clark reading the Daily Planet newspaper in the Kent Farm barn, and another showing Jimmy Olsen (with his camera) at his desk in the Daily Planet. The fourth pic shows a framed photo of the Daily Planet with the headline: "Where Has He Gone?" It obviously refers to Superman's conspicuous absence from the Metropolis scene. There's one of Clark and Lois inside the Daily Planet, and one of Jimmy Olsen, Richard White and Clark Kent in the Daily Planet.

A bunch of new Superman Returns stills have surfaced. The film stars Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Frank Langella, Eva Marie Saint, Parker Posey, Sam Huntington, Kal Penn and Kevin Spacey. Superman Returns opens in theaters and IMAX theaters on June 30th. Watch out for Brandon Routh on March 16th as he will be honored as ShoWest's Male Star of Tomorrow in Las Vegas.
