Jean Dujardin accepts the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The 39-year-old The Artist star beat out Demian Bichir (A Better Life), George Clooney (The Descendants), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), and Brad Pitt (Moneyball).

Jean‘s win marks the first time a French actor has taken home the Best Actor Oscar. Gerard Depardieu was nominated in 1990, while French actress Marion Cotillard won the Best Actress Academy Award in 2008 for La Vie en Rose.

Meryl Streep beams on stage at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The 62-year-old star won the award for Best Leading Actress for her work in The Iron Lady.

“Thank you so much. Thank you, thank you!” Meryl said when she got on stage.

“I really want to thank all my colleagues, all my friends. I see my life before my eyes, my old friends, my new friends,” Meryl emotionally said at the end of her speech. “The thing that counts the most for me is the friendships and the love…my friends, thank you all of you. For this inexplicably wonderful career. Thank you.”

It was a fantastic night for movies at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The big winners of the evening were The Artist and Hugo, each of which picked up five awards!

The Artist won the awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius), Best Actor (Jean Dujardin), Best Costume Design, and Best Original Score.

Hugo won for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects.

Meryl Streep picked up her third Oscar win for Best Actress in The Iron Lady, The Help‘s Octavia Spencer won Best Supporting Actress, and Beginners‘ Christopher Plummer picked up Best Supporting Actor.

Michel Hazanavicius holds onto his golden statuette on stage at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The 44-year-old director picked up the award for Best Director for his work on the film The Artist.

Michel beat out Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Martin Scorsese (Hugo), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), and Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life) for the honor. He was also nominated for Best Writing, Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing but lost both of those awards.

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis make some noise on stage with their cymbals at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The comedy duo, who donned matching white suits, presented the award for Best Original Song to Bret McKenzie for The Muppets.

“One of our nominees will join the ranks of previous winners, ‘When You Wish Upon A Star,’ ‘Moon River,’ ‘The Way We Were’ and ‘It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp’” Zach joked before announcing the winner.

Zach and Will had some trouble opening the envelope! They dropped the cymbals, and the envelope, before they finally read Ben‘s name.

Miley Cyrus glams it up with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party at the City of West Hollywood Park on Sunday (February 26) in West Hollywood, Calif.

“Can’t wait to wear my dress by @RCavalli tonight :) its so stunning xx,” the 19-year-old singer and actress tweeted about her Roberto Cavalli gown.

Miley finished off her look with a Judith Leiber bag, Jimmy Choo shoes, and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
