There’s been a lot of exciting news for Star Wars fans at Disney’s D23 Expo on Saturday (August 15), including a brand new poster from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Director J.J. Abrams and the cast of the film including Harrison Ford, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were on hand to reveal the new poster.

The D23 promotional featured Harrison and newcomers John and Daisy.

The poster also gives fans a little insight into the film’s plot. John‘s character Finn is wielding a lightsaber, leading people to believe that he will be a Jedi.

Although the artwork is not the primary poster for the film, it was created by artist Drew Struzan who has famously created other posters in the Star Wars saga.

Fans also got a first look at Rogue One, a Star Wars film, during the presentation.

Johnny Depp surprises the crowd at Disney’s D23 Expo by showing up on stage in full Jack Sparrow costume on Saturday (August 15) in Anaheim, Calif.

The 52-year-old actor was in attendance to promote his upcoming movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and it was announced that his former co-star Orlando Bloom will return to the franchise.

Johnny‘s other big movie Alice Through the Looking Glass also had a presentation and his co-star Mia Wasikowska showed up to chat about the movie, in theaters this May.

The day before, Johnny appeared at the expo as himself while accepting the Disney Legends honor.

A lot of major Star Wars news was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo on Saturday (August 15), including who will direct the upcoming film Star Wars: Episode IX.

Colin Trevorrow, who helmed this year’s blockbuster mega-hit Jurassic World, will be directing the film due in theaters in 2019.

“This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople,” Colin said in a statement. “We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had�”a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

It was also revealed that Star Wars Lands will be added to Disney Theme Parks in California and Florida!

“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

Felicity Jones is front and center in the first look image at the upcoming movie Rogue One, a Star Wars story.

The film takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. It will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.

Also starring in the movie are Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.

“Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe,” producer Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. [Director] Gareth [Edwards] is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for Rogue One.”

Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie make a surprise appearance on stage at the Disney D23 Expo on Saturday morning (August 15) in Anaheim, Calif.

The guys flew in from the set of their movie Captain America: Civil War to unveil the first footage from the upcoming superhero flick.

The clip started with Captain America (Evans) and Falcon (Mackie) trying to take down Crossbones (Frank Grillo) alongside Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).

“You know, he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky,” Crossbones tells Cap. The footage also showed Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) appearing to be a good guy in this film.

Other things that were shown included a speech from General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), and appearances from Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), a glimpse of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and a scene of Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) gushing over Captain America.

The news was announced at the Disney D23 Expo on Saturday (August 15) and Johnny Depp even made an appearance at the event in costume as Jack Sparrow. Stay tuned for those photos.

Ginnifer Goodwin hits the red carpet while attending the animation panel at Disney’s D23 Expo on Friday (August 14) in Anaheim, Calif.

The 37-year-old Once Upon a Time actress was in attendance to promote her upcoming animated movie Zootopia and help announced that Shakira has joined the cast as “Gazelle, the biggest pop star in Zootopia.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was also in attendance to tease his new animated musical Moana, which will feature original songs by Tony-winner Lin-Manual Miranda.

Moana introduces a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. She meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage. It will hit theaters in November 2016.
