Justin Timberlake has apologized after he faced backlash for tweeting praise for Jesse Williams‘ inspiring speech at the 2016 BET Awards.

The Grey’s Anatomy actor received the Humanitarian Award for his work with the Black Lives Matter and he spoke about the movement in his speech.

“@iJesseWilliams tho… #Inspired #BET2016,” Justin initially tweeted.

A fan replied saying, “So does this mean you’re going to stop appropriating our music and culture? And apologize to Janet too.”

“Oh, you sweet soul. The more you realize that we are the same, the more we can have a conversation. Bye,” Justin said in response. He later apologized for this statement.

The Birth of a Nation, which will hit theaters in October, is about Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher in the antebellum South, who orchestrates an uprising.

Janelle Monae performs a tribute to the late artist Prince at the 2016 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (June 26) in Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old entertainer performed some of Prince’s greatest hits including “Delirious,” “Kiss,” “Pop Life” and “I Would Die for You.” Janelle had the audience standing and dancing during her electric and amazing performance! Watch the video below.

Jamie Foxx holds his daughter Annalise up to the microphone while on stage at the 2016 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (June 26) in Los Angeles.

Jamie was on hand to help pay tribute to the late Muhammad Ali.

“Listen, 2016 has been a tough year. We lost a lot of heroes and a lot of great people. [Muhammad] is definitely more than just boxing, more than just entertainment, but a person who has shaped all of our lives and tonight his daughter is in the back,” Jamie said.

Taraji P. Henson presents an award on stage at the 2016 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theater on Sunday (June 26) in Los Angeles.

Later that evening, the Empire star won the Best Actress award for her work on the show. Her Empire co-star Bryshere Gray, who plays her son on the show, presented her the award with his New Edition co-stars. Congrats to Taraji on the big award!
