Olympian Shani Davis Slams Opening Ceremony Flag Bearer Coin Toss

American speedskater Shani Davis is not pleased with the Pyeongchang Olympics opening ceremony flag bearer selection process, and he made his thoughts known on Twitter.

If you don’t know, the 35-year-old athlete won two gold medals and two silver medals at the Olympics over the course of his career. He also became the first black athlete to win an individual gold at the Winter Olympics back in 2006.

Shani was one of eight candidates who was up for the honor of carrying the flag during the opening ceremony. United States’ representative for the opening ceremony had four votes for him and four votes for luge athlete Erin Hamlin. Erin won via a coin toss.

“I am an American and when I won the 1000m in 2010 I became the first American to 2-peat in that event,” Shani tweeted. “@TeamUSA dishonorably tossed a coin to decide its 2018 flag bearer. No problem. I can wait until 2022. #BlackHistoryMonth2018 #PyeongChang2018″

Lindsey Vonn Had Some Trouble Getting to PyeongChang for the Winter Olympics!

Lindsey Vonn ran into some trouble while trying to get to South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympics!

The 33-year-old gold medal wining skier took to Twitter to document her struggle as her plane bound for the Oympics couldn’t take off.

“Well hopefully we get to Korea….apparently we don’t have the right documents to fly??? About 2 hours on the plane so far and just siting at the gate. Some Germans and Italians on the plane too,” Lindsey wrote.

Eventually Lindsey was able to leave the plane and board another aircraft that was allowed to fly to South Korea.

“Finally on a new plane! Have to give a BIG thank you to all of the flight attendants for working overtime to stay on this flight. They all volunteered and we wouldn’t be able to fly without them! Now let’s hope we actually take off tonight,” Lindsey added.
