SAG Awards Producers Release Statement After Grammys Producers Choose Same March 2021 Date for Show

The 2021 Grammys were postponed this week due to the Coronavirus and it was announced that music’s biggest night would kick off on March 14, 2021 instead. However, there’s already another awards show that night: the 2021 SAG Awards.

Now, the SAG Awards has released a statement on the apparent snub by the Grammys producers to choose a date they had chosen back in July 2020 when they postponed from January 2021.

“We are extremely disappointed to hear of the conflicting date, March 14th, announced today for this year’s Grammy Awards telecast,” SAG-AFTRA said in a statement to TV Line. “We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry.”

Usually, awards season kicks off in January with a slew of shows between January and late February/early March. Now, the first awards show this year, the 2021 Golden Globes, will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and large gatherings are unable to take place.

SAG Awards 2021 Is Latest Awards Show to Postpone Due To COVID-19

Coronavirus just caused another awards show to move out of its original date.

The 2021 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (or SAG Awards as they’re commonly called) will no longer take place on January 24, 2021.

The new show will air on March 14, 2021, which is a full six weeks ahead of the 2021 Oscars. The Oscars will take place on April 25, 2021. The world is hoping that scientists can come up with a working vaccine, as large gatherings seem to cause Coronavirus hotspots.

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused so many events in Hollywood to be postponed, cancelled, or altered. Find out what has been greatly impacted by COVID-19 so far.

Stay tuned as we learn more about next year’s awards season and how different it may be.

SAG Awards Will Not Eliminate Gender-Specific Categories in 2021, Asia Kate Dillon Turns Down Invitation to Join Nominating Committee

The SAG Awards will not eliminate gender-specific categories at the upcoming 2021 awards show and the SAG Awards Committee has responded to Billions star Asia Kate Dillon‘s open letter.

Dillon said that the categories at the awards show “erase non-binary identities by limiting performers to identifying as male or female / man or womxn,” and “serve as an endorsement of the gender binary at large.”

The SAG Awards Committee has invited Dillon to join a larger discussion on the issue in the future, but they said it’s not possible to make changes for the upcoming ceremony. They said that one, non gender-specific category “raises significant concerns in terms of gender parity as well as racial and ethnic diversity.”

In a response to the committee’s letter, published by Variety, Dillon challenged this assertion and said that the SAG Awards have not been historically diverse.

The committee also offered Dillon a space on the award show’s nominating committee, but the invitation was turned down.

There’s an awards show that Asia Kate is very supportive of after they made a big change.
