Actor Aaron Tveit Is the Only Actor Nominated in His Tony Award Category

Actor Aaron Tveit was starring in Moulin Rouge! on Broadway before the pandemic shut everything down on March 12, 2020.

Because Broadway has been dark for months now, the Tony Awards were unable to go on as planned. Today, the nominees for the awards were finally announced and because of the truncated Broadway season, there are fewer nominees in some categories.

In a very unusual occurrence, Aaron is actually the only actor nominated in the category of Best Actor in a Musical!

So, will Aaron automatically win the prize? Not necessarily, and there’s a rule for this circumstance.

The Tony’s state: “If the Tony Awards Nominating Committee has determined that if there is only one nominee in a category listed, such category shall be submitted to the Tony Voters which may, by the affirmative vote of sixty (60%) percent of the total ballots cast, grant an Award in that category.”

Back in March, Aaron did contract the Coronavirus and explained his biggest symptom.

Broadway Star Aaron Tveit Diagnosed with Coronavirus, Explains One Big Symptom

Broadway star Aaron Tveit is explaining that he was diagnosed with Coronavirus today and he has had very mild symptoms…with one being more pronounced and unusual.

“Hey everyone. I just wanted to update you all that I’ve found out that I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. I’ve been in quarantine since Broadway shows shut down on Thursday, March 12th, and I’m feeling much better,” the 36-year-old Moulin Rouge star posted. “I consider myself extremely lucky that my symptoms have been very mild – cold like with no fever – as so many are experiencing much more serious symptoms, because this is a very dangerous virus.”

“One thing I have been experiencing is the loss of taste and smell, which I think is a big sign for people who are otherwise asymptotic,” he added. “I was tested last Monday, and just found out the results, however, I have been taking this situation extremely seriously, even before I was tested. I want everyone to realize that this can affect anyone. And even if you aren’t feeling sick or showing drastic symptoms – please take heed, stay safe, stay healthy and I hope to see everyone at the theater again soon.”
