Rachel Brosnahan Defends Her Parenting In 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel': 'I Have A Lot To Say'

Rachel Brosnahan is over people mom-shaming her Marvelous Mrs. Maisel character, Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel!

While stopping by the SiriusXM studios for a Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Town Hall with host Michelle Collins on Wednesday (November 4), the 29-year-old Emmy-winning actress took the opportunity to address the onscreen absence.

Rachel was joined at the Town Hall by her co-stars Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle and Tony Shalhoub.

“I have a lot to say about this,” Rachel expressed (via EW). “There are a lot of people raising these kids. These kids are being raised by a village and it has been so surprising the level of mom-shaming aimed at this fictional character. We were in an interview in Italy and a reporter turned to me and asked me if I thought that Midge loved her children… Midge is someone who is pursuing a brand new dream and she’s sometimes self-centered in that pursuit but Joel, the father, has stepped up in a huge way and a way that’s particularly modern for this time.”

“They have four loving grandparents, they have a Zelda; they have the privilege of having so many different people around to help them raise their children,” Rachel continued. “They’re not perfect. You’ll definitely see that Joel is going to become a primary caretaker, which is very progressive for the time.”

“Parenting is a losing proposition,” Tony added. “Now you have people that are mom-shaming, but you also have helicopter parents — that’s the other extreme. What in God’s earth is good parenting?”
