Katie Holmes is set to star in a modern retelling of The Seagull, the classic play by Anton Chekhov.

The 33-year-old actress will star alongside Allison Janney, William Hurt, Juliet Rylance, Mark Rylance, and Jean Reno. The film will be written and directed by Dexter actor Christian Carmago.

The film will be “set in rural New England where reckless desire wreaks havoc over Memorial Day weekend as a family confronts the volatile and fragile nature of love.”

Allison will play Elizabeth, a movie star based on the role of Irina Arkadina in The Seagull, while William will play her ailing brother. Katie is going to play the temperamental daughter of the estate’s caretaker, according to Variety.

Juliet, who is married to Christian in real life, will also produce the flick.

Emma Stone, Viola Davis, and Bryce Dallas Howard arrive at the 2011 Hollywood Film Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday (October 24) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Help co-stars were honored during the event with the Hollywood Ensemble Cast Award for their hit film.

Last week, Octavia revealed that Viola and her husband, Julius Tennon, adopted a baby girl recently!

The 25-year-old actress has been busy promoting her film The Oranges with co-stars Allison Janney and Oliver Platt!

The day before, Leighton hit the red carpet in style for the premiere of The Oranges, where she wore head to toe Alexander McQueen.

Here’s a sneak peek of Matthew Perry in his new ABC comedy Mr. Sunshine!

In the series, which debuts February 9, Matthew plays Ben Donovan, a self-absorbed manager of a San Diego sports arena who begins to re-evaluate his life on his 40th birthday.

Mr. Sunshine also stars Allison Janney (Ben’s boss and the arena’s owner), Better Off Ted‘s Andrea Anders, James Lesure, and Matt‘s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip castmate Nate Torrence.

Matthew Perry is heading back to the small screen in Mr. Sunshine, a new ABC comedy!

The 40-year-old actor will play “a sports arena manager in a midlife crisis,” according to Variety. He’ll star opposite Allison Janney.

Also picked up is Happy Endings, the story of a couple who breaks off their relationship at the altar. Elisha Cuthbert stars!

Detroit 1-8-7 also gets a shot at the primetime lineup – starring Michael Imperioli, it tells the story of homicide cops in Detroit, Michigan.

It was a full house with the cast of Hairspray was on hand at ShoWest on Wednesday night — John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Brittany Snow, James Marsden, Elijah Kelley, Allison Janney, Christopher Walken, and Nicole Blonsky as the lead.
