Amal Clooney Praises Parkland Student Survivors at Watermark Conference for Women: 'They Give Me Hope'

Amal Clooney is all smiles as she arrives onstage at the 2018 Watermark Conference for Women held at the San Jose Convention Center on Friday (February 23) in San Jose, Calif.

The 39-year-old international law and human rights activist talked about donating $500,000 to help fund March For Our Lives with her husband George.

The power couple donated to the cause created after students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida were victims of a senseless act of violence when a shooter opened fire and killed 17 people.

“I’m blown away by these students. They are the best vehicle and best hope for change,” Amal expressed onstage. “They are the best vehicle and best hope for change… The march we’re attending is their march. They give me hope.”

George & Amal Clooney Donate $500,000 to March For Our Lives

George and Amal Clooney have donated $500,000 to help fund March For Our Lives.

The power couple donated to the cause created after students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida were victims of a senseless act of violence when a shooter opened fire and killed 17 people.

Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School,” George said in a statement (via Deadline). “Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating 500,000 dollars to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children’s lives depend on it.”

The groundbreaking event is a March 24 march on the streets of Washington, DC for children and families who want gun violence to end.

“On March 24, the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today,” the website reads.

On the 70-year-old former Late Show hosts new Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, the 56-year-old actor discusses his formative years as a child, his journey through Hollywood, and recalls meeting his wife Amal in 2013 at his home in Lake Como, Italy.

“I didn’t leave the house. No, it’s the wildest thing. A mutual friend of ours said, ‘I’m stopping by and can I bring my friend?’ And I was like, ‘Of course.’ I got a call from my agent who called me and said, ‘I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re gonna marry,’” George tells David. “And the funniest thing was my mom and dad were visiting, so my parents were there, and we just talked and we stayed up all night talking and then, you know, I got her email address ’cause she was going to send me some pictures of my parents and then, we started writing and I didn’t really, I didn’t know if she wanted to go out with me. I just thought, you know, we were buddies.”

George & Amal Clooney Write Sweet Note to Cast of 'My Fair Lady'

George and Amal Clooney recently enjoyed a night out at the theater – and sent a super sweet thank you note to the cast of the Mill at Sonning’s My Fair Lady!

Bethan Nash, who plays Eliza Doolittle in the musical, posted a photo of a note that the power couple sent backstage to the cast and crew.

Amal and I wanted to thank you for a fantastic night of theatre. We loved every minute of it. You were all so wonderful. My extended family (half of Beirut) loved it too. Thank you and have a great run. Love, George and Amal,” the note read.

The theater is located outside of London, and the production has been running since November and will wrap up later this month.
