Amanda Gorman Stuns in a Statue of Liberty Inspired Look for the Met Gala 2021

Amanda Gorman is arriving in style!

The 23-year-old poet hit the carpet at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday (September 13) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

She wore a bright blue dress embellished with crystals as well a silver crown of laurels, telling red carpet host Keke Palmer that her look was inspired by the Statue of Liberty. Her purse features a quote the Emma Lazarus poem inscribed on the statue.

Amanda is co-chairing the event alongside Naomi Osaka, Timothee Chalamet and Billie Eilish.

The annual Costume Institute Gala is the fashion world’s equivalent of the Oscars and the event is usually held on the first Monday of May, but it was postponed until September 2021 due to the pandemic. The theme this year is “In America” and there will be a two-part exhibit with the second part debuting at next year’s Met Gala.

FYI: Amanda is wearing Vera Wang.

Met Gala 2021 Reportedly Still Happening, But the Date Has Changed - See the Rumored Hosts!

The 2021 Met Gala is happening this year, according to a new report!

The annual fashionable celebration, which was cancelled last year amid the pandemic, will be returning as usual this year, Page Six reported Thursday (April 8).

However, it will be happening later than usual.

Unlike most years, when the event takes place on the first Monday of May, this year’s event will allegedly be pushed back to September 13 to try and time with a return to relative “normalcy” following the deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine.

It was not going to be on the first Monday of that month due to Labor Day.

“Even Anna Wintour can’t change a federal holiday,” a source told the outlet.

While there are no official confirmations yet, poet Amanda Gorman and CFDA chairman Tom Ford are reportedly being eyed to act as the hosts.

The theme will be a celebration of America and American designers, according to the report.

Inauguration Poet Amanda Gorman Reveals She Was Racially Profiled Outside of Her Building

Amanda Gorman, the poet who received international acclaim after performing at Joe Biden‘s inauguration in January, is opening up about being racially profiled.

The 22-year-old poet took to Twitter on Friday (March 5) to reveal what happened.

“A security guard tailed me on my walk home tonight. He demanded if I lived there because ‘you look suspicious.’ I showed my keys & buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology. This is the reality of black girls: One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat,” Amanda tweeted.

She followed up and wrote, “In a sense, he was right. I AM A THREAT: a threat to injustice, to inequality, to ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and fatal danger to the powers that be.”
