Taylor Hicks Throws Shade at Chris Daughtry, Says a Winner Should Judge 'American Idol'

It doesn’t sound like Taylor Hicks approves of Chris Daughtry as a choice to judge the upcoming American Idol reboot on ABC.

The 40-year-old singer won season five of the singing competition series, the same season that Chris competed on and finished in fourth place.

Chris, who went on to have huge success with his self-titled band, is reportedly joining the panel of judges for next year’s season.

“I think a winner should be [a judge], personally,” Taylor said during an interview on the Domenick Nati Show. “Because, what you go through to win the show is a lot different than what you go through when you’re third or fourth, you know, or fifth. Or tenth. If they were going to have a judge that’s from the show, if they’re going to have someone from the show who was actually a contestant, I would feel like a winner would be the best suited.”

When asked if he would consider being a judge on American Idol, Taylor said, “I would. I’ve got some pretty good ideas. We’ll see what happens.”

Chris Daughtry Joins 'American Idol' Judging Panel (Report)

Chris Daughtry has reportedly joined the judging panel for the American Idol reboot.

The 37-year-old former contestant, who came in fourth place on season five, will join Katy Perry on the panel if both of their deals go through, according to Us Weekly.

“They wanted a panel of all ex contestants,” a source told the mag. “Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson were all on their wish list.”

Chris went on to have big success with his band Daughtry after his run on the show in 2006.

Fox Exec Slams 'American Idol' for Returning So Soon

American Idol aired on Fox for 15 years and now will be moving to ABC for a reboot in 2018. Fox TV chairman Dana Walden is opening up to blast the show’s producer FremantleMedia for bringing the show back so soon.

Walden told reporters that Fox offered to bring the show back in 2020 as it would be too soon to come back before then.

“They were determined to get this show back on the air as quickly as possible,” Walden said on the call. “We spent about $25 million sending a clear message that it was the farewell season. It felt to us it would be extremely fraudulent to bring the show back quickly, that fans would not appreciate being told one thing and then having the show brought back right away.”

Dana says that Fox would have continued with the show if they could make it more cost-effective, but Fremantle did not “want to take significant trims.”

“They didn’t want to test out a new panel — they felt like it had taken a long time to find the chemistry they had with [Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr.]. They ultimately said to us they would rather rest the show after this season rather than make any changes, and that’s when we decided to call it the farewell season,” she said.

Simon Cowell Will Not Return to 'American Idol' Reboot

Simon Cowell has officially broken his silence on the American Idol reboot that is heading to ABC.

The 57-year-old TV personality spoke with Extra and said that he has no plans of returning for the reboot set to premiere in 2018.

“I was asked to do it, and the answer is no,” Simon said.

Simon was one of the original judges alongside Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson when the show first premiere in 2002.

“I have no interest,” Simon said. “My memories are when we first started. It was a different time with Randy, Ryan [Seacrest] and Paula. You can’t recreate that.”

Simon is now currently a judge on America’s Got Talent.

“Last time I watched [Idol], it was not the same show, just the same name. I left for a reason and I never regretted that.”

Is Kelly Clarkson Returning to 'American Idol' As a Judge? Sources Say...

Kelly Clarkson is reportedly totally down to become a judge on the American Idol reboot – and ABC wants her, too!

ABC has expressed “serious interest,” TMZ reports, and the 35-year-old entertainer has been trying to clear her schedule to account for filming. If you don’t remember, Kelly won the first season of American Idol!

The home base for American Idol‘s reboot is supposedly going to be at Disney World, making it easier and cheaper to film because the judges won’t be traveling from city to city like on the previous version. Ryan Seacrest is rumored to return to the show as well.
