'American Idol' Season 22 - Top 14 Revealed as 6 Contestants Are Sent Home

SPOILER ALERT – Do not read ahead if you haven’t watched the late episode of American Idol!

American Idol has revealed the Top 14 for season 22!

The long-running singing competition series aired its first live episode of the season on Monday (April 15) with the Top 20 contestants hoping for a spot in the next round.

Host Ryan Seacrest first announced the 10 contestants that were safe based on having the most votes from America.

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie were then tasked with saving four singers from the bottom 10 before sending home the remaining six contestants.

New episodes of American Idol air on Sunday and Monday nights at at 8/7c on ABC.

It’s hard to believe American Idol first premiered more than two decades ago!

The hit singing competition series premiered on June 11, 2002 on FOX with Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson as the original three judges with host Ryan Seacrest.

After 15 seasons, Idol ended on Fox and after a two year hiatus, the show was revived on ABC in 2018 with Ryan returning as host along with new judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.

Over it’s past 21 seasons, Idol has launched the careers of some of the biggest names in the music industry.

New episodes of American Idol season 22 air on Sunday and Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.

13 'American Idol' Contestants Who Quit or Were Removed by Producers, Ranked from First to Most Recent

While most people who make it far on American Idol are having the time of their lives, others have decided to leave the show in the middle of the competition for various reasons.

One singer said recently said she was quitting as she wanted to go home to her kids and she didn’t think she was going to win anyways. Another singer said she didn’t think she was able to give 100 percent, so she decided to just leave the show.

There are 11 other former contestants who have quit the show or were removed by producers, including one that made it all the way to the final five.

In case you didn’t hear, the “Dark Horse” artist announced her departure from the singing competition after season 22 back in February. Katy has been serving as a judge alongside Luke and Lionel Richie since 2018.

'American Idol' Top 20 to Be Revealed on April 14 - Meet the Top 24 Contestants!

The Top 24 contestants have performed on American Idol, but you’re going to have to wait another week to find out who advances to the next round.

ABC flew all of the Top 24 contestants to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii to compete in the latest round with Tori Kelly and Jelly Roll serving as the guest mentors.

America is voting for their favorites for the first time during this round and fans were given the chance to vote across the two nights of performances on April 7 and 8.

Only four contestants will be cut after this round and the Top 20 contestants will perform on April 14. One night later, the Top 14 contestants will be revealed on April 15.

Alyssa Raghu Fails to Make 'American Idol' Top 24 After Previously Reaching Top 8 in 2019

Alyssa Raghu‘s second chance on American Idol did not last too long.

The 22-year-old singer made it to the Hollywood round of Idol for season 22 after previously finishing in the Top 8 of the show back in 2019. She became the first contestant to ever given the chance to audition again after making it to the live shows in a previous season.

Alyssa caused controversy when she showed up to support her best friend Julia Davo at her audition, but then sang for the judges herself and earned a ticket to Hollywood, despite knowing that her friend did not make it. Amid the backlash, she took to social media to slam the producers for pitting them against each other and claimed that the audition was heavily edited.
