Andrew Garfield Promises Many Laughs in Polio Drama 'Breathe'

Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy share a laugh while speaking at a press conference for their movie Breathe during the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday (September 12) in Toronto, Canada.

The co-stars were joined by director Andy Serkis to talk about the new film. They also stopped by the Variety Studio presented by AT&T and DIRECTV at Momofuku Toronto.

The film follows a young man’s battle with polio and while you might expect the movie to be sad, Andrew promises that there are plenty of laughs.

“I cried constantly and laughed a lot. More laughter than crying, but I cried a lot. So there was loads of laughter,” Andrew said at the press conference (via the Toronto Sun).

Andrew Garfield Gets Mobbed By Fans at 'Breathe' Premiere!

Andrew Garfield got up close and personal with some fans at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival!

The 34-year-old actor stepped out at the premiere of his upcoming flick Breathe on Monday (September 11) at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Canada.

He was also joined by his co-star Claire Foy, who looked lovely in a simple blue velvet dress.

The film tells the true story of Robin and Diana Cavendish, a couple who refuse to give up hope while facing the devastating effects of polio.

With the help of the groundbreaking ideas of an inventor, they escape the hospital and seek out a full and passionate life together.

Breathe is set to hit theaters on October 13th.

Andrew Garfield to Return to Broadway in 'Angels in America'

Andrew Garfield will be making his return to the New York theater scene with the Broadway transfer of Angels in America.

The 34-year-old Oscar-nominated actor is currently starring in the play in London and he will bring the production to the Big Apple alongside co-star Nathan Lane.

This is the first Broadway production of Angels in America since it premiered in 1993. An Off-Broadway production starring Zachary Quinto took place in 2010.

Angels in America, which will have two parts playing in rep, begins performances on February 23, 2018 for an 18-week run at the Neil Simon Theatre.

Andrew Garfield Says 'Gay Man' Comments Were Taken Out of Context

Andrew Garfield is speaking out after receiving backlash for saying that he is “a gay man right now just without the physical act.”

The 33-year-old actor is playing a gay man in the play Angels in America and he made the comment in an interview about preparing for the role.

was criticized as people thought he was “simplifying what it means to be gay.”

“That’s of course not what I meant at all,” Andrew said in an interview with Newsbeat. “That discussion was about this play and how deeply grateful I am that I get to work on something so profound. It’s a love letter to the LGBTQ community. We were talking about, ‘How do you prepare for something so important and so big?’ and I was basically saying, ‘I dive in as fully as I possibly can.’”

“My only longing is to serve and to keep the world spinning forward for the LGBTQ community in whatever way I’m meant to,” he added. “It’s important to a community that I feel so welcomed by. The intention [in my comments] was to speak to that, speak to my desire to play this part to the best of my ability and to fully immerse myself in a culture that I adore.”

Andrew Garfield Says He's Gay 'Just Without the Physical Act'

Andrew Garfield just came out as gay – kind of.

During a recent panel discussion for his new London-based play Angels in America, the 33-year-old actor said that he considers himself a “gay man right now just without the physical act.”

“My only time off during rehearsals – every Sunday I would have eight friends over and we would just watch Ru,” Andrew said in reference to RuPaul’s Drag Race via the Gay Times. “This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act – that’s all.”

In his new play, Andrew plays a gay character diagnosed with AIDS and admitted that watching Drag Race helped prepare him for his role.

Andrew went on to admit that “as far as I know, I am not a gay man,” but did say that he is open to the possibility of being a same-sex relationship in the future.

“Maybe I’ll have an awakening later in my life, which I’m sure will be wonderful and I’ll get to explore that part of the garden,” Andrew said. “But right now I’m secluded to my area, which is wonderful as well.”
