Angela Lansbury Issues Statement After Sparking Controversy With Comments About Sexual Misconduct

Angela Lansbury is speaking out after her comments on sexual harassment resulted in a firestorm of criticism earlier in the week.

The 92-year-old actress issued a statement on Wednesday (November 29) clarifying her opinion on sexual misconduct.

“There is no excuse whatsoever for men to harass women in an abusive sexual manner. And, I am devastated that anyone should deem me capable of thinking otherwise,” she said.

“Those who have known the quality of my work and the many public statements I have made over the course of my life, must know, that I am a strong supporter of Women’s Rights. Lastly, I would like to add that I am troubled by how quickly and brutishly some have taken my comments out of context and attempted to blame my generation, my age, or my mindset, without having read the entirety of what I said.”

Angela Lansbury Doesn't Understand Need for 'Beauty & The Beast' Remake

Angela Lansbury is sharing her thoughts on the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast and she doesn’t sound like a big fan of the idea!

The legendary 91-year-old actress played the role of Mrs. Potts in the animated Disney movie and she spoke to EW at the 25th anniversary event back in September, where she sang the title song live on stage.

“I was a bit taken aback, naturally,” Angela said about finding out the movie would be remade. “I thought, ‘Why? Why are we doing this over again?’ But I guess, I don’t know why they’re doing it. But they are, and it will be interesting to see what they do with it. These are live action pieces and I know very well the actress who’s playing Mrs. Potts and she’s a very good friend of mine. It’s Emma Thompson.”

Angela said it’s “absolutely” strange to think about someone else playing all of the different roles in the film.
