Angelina Jolie has revealed in an essay on International Women’s Day that two of her daughters both underwent surgeries recently.

“I have spent the last two months in and out of surgeries with my eldest daughter (Zahara, 15), and days ago watched her younger sister go under the knife for a hip surgery,” the actress, director and humanitarian wrote in a Time essay. “They know that I am writing this, because I respect their privacy and we discussed it together and they encouraged me to write. They understand that going through medical challenges and fighting to survive and heal is something to be proud of.”

“I have watched my daughters care for one another. My youngest daughter studied the nurses with her sister, and then assisted the next time. I saw how all my girls so easily stopped everything and put each other first, and felt the joy of being of service to those they love,” Angelina added. “I also watched them their face fears with a resolute bravery. We all know that moment when no one else can help us, and all we can do is close our eyes and breathe. When only we can take the next step or breath through the pain, so we steady ourselves and do it.”

“Little girls’ softness, their openness and instinct to nurture and help others, must be appreciated and not abused. We must do much more to protect them, in all societies: not only against the extreme ways girls’ rights are often violated, but also the more subtle injustices and attitudes that so often go unnoticed or excused,” she added. “So my wish on this day is that we value girls. Care for them. And know that the stronger they grow, the healthier they will be and the more they will give back to their family and community.”

She concluded her essay, “And my message to girls is, fight on, little ladies. Your care for each other will be a large part of your way forward. Hold your nerve. Know your rights. And never let anyone tell you that you are not precious and special and, above all, equal.”

Angelina did not give details about the surgeries. She shares six kids with Brad Pitt: Knox and Vivienne, 11, Shiloh, 13, Zahara, 15, Pax, 16, and Maddox, 18.

Angelina Jolie is speaking out to help others.

The actress and activist penned an essay for Time published on Thursday (February 2) about her experience with Syrian refugees.

“A few months into the Syrian conflict in 2011, I visited the Jordanian border at night, where shell-shocked Syrian families were crossing under cover of darkness to avoid sniper fire…a medic at the border post told me about a family who’d recently arrived. They carried with them their wounded 8-year-old son and his amputated leg. His leg had been severed in an airstrike. He’d begged them to bring it with them as they fled, in the hope that it could somehow be reattached,” she wrote.

“We’re watching the brutal endgame of the war in Syria as if it has little to do with us. But it does. We should be using our diplomatic power to insist on a cease-fire and a negotiated peace based on at least some measure of political participation, accountability and the conditions for the safe return of refugees,” she went on to say. Angelina Jolie‘s Bride of Frankenstein movie is still moving forward.

Once part of Universal Pictures’ “Dark Universe” slate, the movie was put on the back burner after The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, failed at the box office.

Variety reports that the movie is still in talks though with producer Amy Pascal and John Krasinski working to bring it to life.

The site also reports that Amy has brought in screenwriter David Koepp, who was involved in crafting the defunct Dark Universe pitch for the project.

The project was imagined as a liberation tale, about a female monster created for companionship who has quite the opposite in mind.

Recently, Angelina has been filming Marvel’s Eternals with Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani.

The 44-year-old actress was spotted stopping by a movie studio on Monday afternoon (January 6) in Universal City, Calif.

Angelina donned her usual chic, black uniform, pairing a long coat with a tank top and trousers.

She was also joined by her 16-year-old son Pax (not pictured).

The day before, Angelina skipped out on the Golden Globes to spend some quality time with family.

Jon Voight is raving about daughter Angelina Jolie!

While attending the Gold Meets Golden event, the 81-year-old actor talked about what makes the 44-year-old actress a great mom.

“She loves her kids, she’s always involved with them, always concerned for them,” Jon shared via People. “She monitors everything…She’s great.”

Angelina shares six kids with ex Brad Pitt – Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11.

“They all have something special, and what you want to do is provide them with the tools to express that,” Jon said about his grandkids, adding that “every child is unique.”

Jon then went on to praise former son-in-law Brad on his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

“I am proud of Brad, and that was a very unusual movie, and a very successful one, a very dynamic movie,” Jon said.

Angelina Jolie last made an appearance at the Golden Globes in 2018 and her return to the show hasn’t happened just yet.

The 44-year-old actress was spotted shopping at a local mall while the 2020 awards show took place on Sunday afternoon (January 5) in Los Angeles.

Angelina and her daughter Vivienne (not pictured) were seen making a low-key visit to a mall in L.A.’s Koreatown. The mother-daughter duo reportedly went to a store to get prescription glasses and browsed around some other stores while waiting for their order to be completed.

Vivienne‘s dad Brad Pitt won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes for his work in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

During his acceptance speech, Brad made a comment about his dating life and his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston‘s reaction happened to be caught on camera at the right exact moment.

Salma Hayek wrote a super sweet note about two of her newfound friends, Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani.

The trio are currently filming the upcoming Marvel movie Eternals, and Salma snapped a selfie from the set.

“Gosh am I so lucky… I thought I was just going to be working with great actors playing aliens; little did I know, I was going to befriend amazing human beings,” Salma posted on her Instagram, along with a selfie of the trio together.

Eternals is expected to hit theaters on November 6, 2020.
