Angelina Jolie Talks 'Awkward' Love Scenes With Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie gets candid about her By the Sea love scenes in this new interview.

The 40-year-old actress and director opens up about having to be romantic on-screen with husband Brad Pitt.

“It’s the strangest thing in the world to be lying naked in a bathtub with an iPad that’s showing you the shot outside, while your husband is at the door and you’re directing him to come in and make love to you,” Angelina told EW (via Us Weekly). “[And] in front of a bunch of other men with cameras.”

Angie continued, “Love scenes are strange anyway, but when you’re doing a love scene with a person that you really have sex with? The only way to get through it was for us to all talk about the absurdity of it and make sure no one was feeling awkward.”

“I couldn’t get out of the bathtub to get to the monitor because the director is naked,” Angie added. “We’re artists and want to be free, but Brad — it’s his wife. He was on towel duty. He’d hold the towel over me.”

Angelina Jolie on Marriage to Brad Pitt: 'We Have Fights & Problems Like Any Other Couple'

Angelina Jolie is opening up more about her marriage to Brad Pitt.

The 40-year-old actress talks about directing her 51-year-old husband in their latest film By the Sea, as well as their on-screen fight scenes.

Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters were even remotely close to our problems we couldn’t have made the film,” Angie told The Telegraph. “To be clear: we have fights and problems like any other couple. We have days when we drive each other absolutely mad and want space, but the problems in the movie aren’t our specific problems.”

She continued, “These were very sensitive themes and I know Brad‘s triggers and what he can do and what he is thinking about, so I had to step away and just be very careful in how he was directed.”

“I think he worked very hard,” Angie added. “The strangest things were the scenes when we were fighting and it was so weird trying to tell him to fight with me better.”

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Look Flawless at 'By the Sea' L.A. Premiere!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are looking better than ever while attending the premiere of their movie By the Sea held at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Thursday (November 5) in Hollywood.

The event served as the opening night gala premiere of the 2015 AFI Fest presented by Audi.

Angelina recently opened up to WSJ about how she and Brad kept their distance while playing an unhappy couple in the film.

“We had to stay in our corners, like boxers, and not be husband and wife,” Angelina said. “It was very hard to do those scenes without Brad and I taking care of each other. Normally in between takes, you’d make sure that the other’s OK, but we had to be able to really get ugly.”

FYI: Angelina is wearing an Atelier Versace gown and Procop jewels. Brad is wearing Lanvin.

Angelina Jolie Talks Marriage, Her Health, Family & More with 'WSJ'

Angelina Jolie Pitt stars in this gorgeous black and white photo shoot for WSJ‘s new issue, where she’s been named the 2015 Entertainment/Film Innovator.

Here’s what the 40-year-old actress, director, and humanitarian had to share with the mag:

On filming emotionally difficult scenes with Brad Pitt for By the Sea: “It was not easy. We just had to be brave and say, ‘OK, honey, we’re strong enough to do this; let’s somehow use this to make us stronger.’”

On her health: “I want to make sure my kids are never worried about me. Even if I’m going through something, I make sure they are very aware that I’m totally fine. I’ll stop and make a joke. I talk to them. I never, ever want them to have that secret worry and feel that they have to take care of me.” Brad adds: “I’ll tell you this about her surgeries: Once the decision was made, she was on the operating table two weeks later. You have to understand that this is a woman who never knew she’d make it to 40. This is a woman who had watched her mother, aunt and grandmother become sick and eventually succumb, all at an early age. Her drive, her absolute value in herself, is defined by the impact she can have during her time here—for her kids and for the underprivileged and those suffering.”

On domestic life: “We wake up, we make breakfast. In our domestic life, we’re Mom and Dad. And often we’re dorky Mom and Dad, which the kids find ridiculous.”

Angelina Jolie Breaks Her Silence on Those Sony Emails

Angelina Jolie opens up about being referenced in the leaked Sony emails in this new interview.

The 40-year-old actress and director “didn’t read any of them,” but was immediately concerned about executive Amy Pascal.

“Someone told me. There are certain things that bother me and certain things that don’t,” Angie told NYT. “Personal attacks on me? I think I’m just so used to it. Honestly, my first instinct was that I was worried about Amy. I had someone call her and ask if she was O.K. Not because I’m a saint, but because I think we have to look at the bigger picture. She’s got kids. I knew it was going to unravel for her.”

Angelina also threw in her two cents about sexism in Hollywood, saying “Sexism is part of every industry and must be addressed. But I try not to focus on the negative but the positive side of what we can bring. I want to support other women because of the opportunities I’ve had — and I’ve had a lot of opportunities. What I try as a female director is to do the best job I can and in the meantime bring attention to as many other female directors and writers as I can.”
