Broadway's 'Almost Famous' Musical, Starring Chris Wood & Solea Pfeiffer, Begins Rehearsals - See Photos!

The musical version of the beloved movie Almost Famous is coming to Broadway this fall and rehearsals have officially begun!

Chris Wood and Solea Pfeiffer are starring in the musical as Russell Hammond and Penny Lane, the roles originated by Billy Crudup and Kate Hudson.

The musical will also star Casey Likes as William Miller, Anika Larsen as Elaine Miller, Drew Gehling as Jeff Bebe, and Rob Colletti as Lester Bangs.

Cameron Crowe, who wrote and directed the movie, wrote the book and lyrics for the musical. Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner Tom Kitt wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics.

Here is the synopsis: “The year is 1973 and it’s all happening. Led Zeppelin is king, Richard Nixon is President, and idealistic 15-year-old William Miller is an aspiring music journalist. When Rolling Stone magazine hires him to go on the road with an up-and-coming band, William is thrust into the rock-and-roll circus, where his love of music, his longing for friendship, and his integrity as a writer collide. Almost Famous is a spirited tale of fandom, family, and the unforgettable characters you’ll meet along the way. Turn it up!”

Almost Famous begins preview performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on October 3 ahead of an opening night performance on November 3.

Carole King Surprises Cast at 'Beautiful' on Broadway, Sings at Curtain Call!

Carole King surprised the cast and the audience at a performance of the musical Beautiful on Thursday evening (April 3) at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City.

The new show is based on the legendary singer-songwriter’s life and she had not seen the show up until that night. She previously had attended a workshop performance, but left midway into the reading.

“She came to a reading and lasted halfway through,” her daughter Sherry told Playbill. “She said ‘I have to go.’ I said, ‘You’re just going? What do I tell all these people?’ She said, ‘Tell them it’s great. I can tell it’s great. But I can’t watch my life played out before me.’”

At the performance this week, Carole did not let the cast know she was coming and surprised them by walking on stage during the curtain call at the end of the show. She even joined the cast and audience in a performance of her song “You’ve Got a Friend”!
