Gladys Bourdain Dead - Anthony Bourdain's Mom Dies at 85

Anthony Bourdain‘s mother Gladys Bourdain has sadly passed away at the age of 85.

The mom of the late chef and author died at a hospice facility on Friday (January 10) in New York City, The New York Times reports.

Gladys was a reporter and writer who worked for The New York Times for 24 years since 1984.

Gladys‘s son Christopher confirmed her death as well, noting that her health had been getting worse over the years.

Christopher was also the one who first informed his mother of Anthony Bourdain’s death by suicide at age 61 in June 2018.

Glayds told USA Today about her late son, “He didn’t disguise anything or take on any act of persona. He was who he was, and it was out there for everyone to see.”

“The thing is he came back from his first summer in Provincetown as a dishwasher, and then one of the cooks burned himself or cut himself so badly he had to stop work and Tony, who had been just observing, filled in,” she added. “And when he came back at the end of that summer, we talked about it and since he had so little interest in his college career, I suggested the Culinary Institute and that’s how it all started.”

Our thoughts are with Gladys Bourdain‘s loved ones during this difficult time.

Jada Pinkett Smith Opens Up About Having Suicidal Thoughts 'Often'

Jada Pinkett Smith is opening up about mental health and making the brave reveal that she had, at one time in her life, had suicidal thoughts “often.”

The 46-year-old actress revealed on her Instagram account in a tribute to Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, who both died from suicide last week.

“With the suicides of Kate and Anthony it brought up feelings of when I was in such despair and had considered the same demise…often. In the years I spent towards my healing, many moons ago, I realized the mind and heart can be extremely delicate without the foundation of a formidable spirit. What I eat, what I watch on TV, what music I listen to, how I care for my body, my spiritual practice, what people I surround myself with, the amount of stress I allow and so on… either contribute to or deteriorate my mental health. Mental health is a daily practice for me. It’s a practice of deep self-love,” Jada wrote. “May Kate and Anthony Rest In Peace. Many may not understand… but I do, and this morning I have the deepest gratitude that I pulled through.”
