Anthony Bourdain Addressed 'Responsibility' to Live For Daughter in One of His Final Interviews Before Death

Anthony Bourdain, who was sadly found dead by suicide on Friday (June 8), spoke about his life in one of his final interviews with People in February.

In the interview, he explained that he felt “some responsibility” to “at least try to live” since his daughter, Ariane, was born 11 years ago.

“I also do feel I have things to live for. There have been times, honestly, in my life that I figured, ‘I’ve had a good run — why not just do this stupid thing, this selfish thing… jump off a cliff into water of indeterminate depth,’” he said, referring to something he once did for his Travel Channel show.

“In retrospect, I don’t know that I would do that today — now that I’m a dad or reasonably happy,” he added.

He also explained that he was “happy in ways that I have not been in memory” and “happy in ways I didn’t think I ever would be, for sure,” attributing it to “somebody really strong” he met — which was seemingly a reference to his girlfriend Asia Argento.

He also opened up about his struggle with addiction: “I was a heroin addict, for sure, and I was a cocaine addict, for sure. I never stopped drinking, even after.”
