Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to star in the drama Cry Macho for Academy Award-winning producer Albert Ruddy (The Godfather, Million Dollar Baby), the ex-governor’s spokesman Alan Mendelsohn said.

The 63-year-old actor, who recently announced his split from wife Maria Shriver, would play a down-on-his-luck horse trainer hired to kidnap his former boss’ young son from his ex-wife in Mexico. Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) will direct.

“If it works, and I think it will,” Ruddy said, “this could be a classic. There’s an emotional line to the story that really works. At the end of the movie, I’m hoping audiences will be laughing and crying at the same time.”

Arnold will reportedly be paid $12.5 million plus 25 percent of the first-dollar gross of the film, according to The Wrap.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver have split after 25 years of marriage.

“This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship,” the couple said in a statement to the L.A. Times.

“We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public,” they added.

Arnold, 63, and Maria, 55, have four children together, Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher.

Jane Lynch busts a move with fitness guru and legendary actress Jane Fonda at Maria Shriver‘s Women’s Conference on Sunday (October 24) in Long Beach, Calif.

The 50-year-old Glee actress put good use to the moves she used in the “Physical” sequence in the episode with guest star Olivia Newton-John.

The 3-day conference started Sunday morning with the March on Alzheimer’s, a 5K march and candlelight vigil to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

Maria was joined by her husband, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at the event.

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki is the third actor in the running to star in the remake of Conan The Barbarian, sources tell JustJared.com.

It was reported earlier this week that Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis, Baywatch) are the two others in competition for the role.

Conan is set to start production on March 15 in Bulgaria but as previously reported that Padalecki‘s schedule might be causing a little bit of trouble — he plans on tying the knot with fiancee Genevieve Cortese this spring in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Directing Conan is Marcus Nispel, who worked with Jared on the 2009 horror flick Friday the 13th.
