'American Idol' Alum Avalon Young Has Brain Cancer & Is Raising Money For Surgery Expenses

Avalon Young, who was part of American Idol‘s Farewell Season from Fox, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

The now 26-year-old singer revealed the news to fans with an interview on her local San Diego Fox News station.

“I just felt a little bit disconnected mentally and then I started having what they’re calling a simple partial seizure once every three hours for a few days, which was very alarming, of course,” she shared about the odd symptoms she had been experiencing before the diagnosis.

Avalon continued, “I’m not an epileptic; I’ve never had a seizure in my life, so I didn’t even actually know what was going on, at first.

During a routine MRI, Avalon says that it revealed she had a brain tumor “as big as a peach”.

While it was removed in a 16-hour surgery in February, Avalon still has more surgery in her future to remove the rest of the cancer still resting there, as well as radiation treatment.

She set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to pay for the expensive treatment and surgery.

“The GoFundMe is something that is super important to me now, because I can’t really work around this time,” she shared with TMZ about her upcoming May surgery date.

She added that it’s “one of the most important things in my life right now because it’s really all that we have, paying all the medical bills.”
