Ruby Rose Debuts 'Batwoman' First Look Trailer at CW Upfronts!

Ruby Rose hits the carpet while attending the 2019 CW Network Upfronts on Thursday morning (May 16) at City Center in New York City.

The Aussie actress was joined at the event by her Batwoman co-stars Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, Rachel Skarsten, Dougray Scott, and Elizabeth Anweis.

The new series was recently picked up by The CW and its set to anchor the network’s new Superhero Sunday lineup.

Ruby Rose's 'Batwoman' Series Picked Up by The CW!

Ruby Rose‘s pilot for Batwoman was picked up to series by The CW!

The character was introduced to fans in an episode of Arrow and the series will be based on the DC Comics character Batwoman.

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence,” Variety reports.

The CW has also picked up the Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene starring Lucy Hale and a reboot of the Nancy Drew franchise.

The CW Orders 'Batwoman' Pilot Starring Ruby Rose!

Batwoman is a go at The CW!

The network has given a pilot order to the DC drama project starring Ruby Rose, Deadline reported on Thursday (January 3).

David Nutter is set to direct the pilot.

The CW first revealed the show’s development after announcing the appearance of Batwoman in the annual Arrow-verse crossover.

Batwoman also marks the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero series.

Here’s a summary: “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Ruby Rose Is Batwoman in 'Elseworlds' CW Crossover Event - Watch the First Teaser!

Ruby Rose is Batwoman!

The 32-year-old actress makes her debut as the superhero during The CW’s Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl crossover event called Elseworlds on December 9 – and we finally got a first look at her in action on Sunday (December 2).

The first teaser from the CW features Ruby as Kate Kane with her red hair and cape.

“That’s…not Batman,” Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) says when he sees her in the full Batwoman costume during the sneak peek.

Ruby Rose Deletes Twitter After 'Batwoman' Casting Backlash

Ruby Rose is no longer on Twitter.

The 32-year-old The Meg star left the social platform over the weekend following backlash and harassment regarding her casting in the new Batwoman CW series.

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from – has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change 🤯,” she tweeted just before disabling her account on Friday (August 10).

She also disabled comments on her Instagram.

Fans have been tweeting their opinions – good and bad – about her casting ever since it was announced on Tuesday (August 7).

Ruby Rose to Play Batwoman for The CW

Batwoman is coming to The CW and the role will be played by Ruby Rose, Just Jared can confirm!

The character is set to make her debut on The CW’s annual crossover event with the network’s four DC shows: The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.

A Batwoman series is also in the works for the network, and it would hopefully premiere in the 2019-2020 season.
