Sad news for all Ben McKenzie fans – his fan favorite drama Southland has been canceled by TNT after five seasons on the air.

After a critically acclaimed first season on NBC, the show was canceled, but then saved by the folks at TNT, where it lasted for another four years.

“TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season,” the network said in a statement. “We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made. Executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco, along with creator Ann Biderman and our partners at Warner Bros. Television, have given us five seasons of powerful, unforgettable storytelling, for which we are deeply grateful. We also want to thank the amazing cast for their impassioned, no-holds-barred performances, and the production team for their tenacity shooting on the streets of real-world Los Angeles. We wish everyone associated with Southland the very best.”

Ben McKenzie and Mandy Moore film a scene for their new CBS drama pilot The Advocates on Thursday (April 4) in Los Angeles.

The show revolves around a female lawyer (Moore) and a male ex-con (McKenzie) who team as victim advocates and go to the edge of the law to right wrongs and fight for the underdog.

“To clarify: I am doing “Advocates” in second position to #SouthLAnd If picked up for a sixth season, I am doing that. #SouthLAnd forever,” Ben told his fans on Twitter last month after the casting news was announced.

“I’m honored to be a part of the best cop show on TV (IMHO). I hope and pray it returns. Nothing would make me happier. #SouthLAnd forever,” he added.

The 34-year-old actor’s series Southland is set to return for its fifth season this week and we can’t wait to see what will happen!

The new season of the hit cop drama will mark the arrival of Chad Michael Murray as a guest star.

Eva Longoria waves to fans while leaving the 2012 Monte Carlo TV Festival held at Grimaldi Forum on Tuesday (June 12) in Monte-Carlo, Monaco.

“With my old friends from Young & the Restless in Monte Carlo and Eva La Rue! I miss Daytime!!” the 37-year-old actress tweeted at the event, which featured panels from a slew of television shows.

Ben McKenzie joined his Southland castmates Regina King, Shawn Hatosy, and Michael Cudlitz at a panel while Gabourey Sidibe represented her show The Big C.

Ben McKenzie keeps it super casual as he heads out for a stroll on Friday afternoon (June 1) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 33-year-old Southland actor kept a low profile behind his dark sunglasses.

Rose McGowan looks lovely in Preen at the TCM Classic Film Festival opening night premiere of Cabaret held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Thursday (April 12) in Hollywood.

The 38-year-old actress, who accessorized with Stella McCartney shoes and a Judith Leiber bag, was joined at the event by Southland‘s Ben McKenzie, and Davey Detail.
