Ben McKenzie called in to Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show on Monday to talk about Southland‘s revival on TNT!

Here’s what he had to say about TNT, how he found out Southland was canceled and his Halloween costume…

On learning of Southland‘s cancellation: “We were ‘sposed to premiere on NBC October 23 – we were on set shooting, I was making plans to go to New York with my publicist and the producers came to the set and said ‘We’re canceled!’

On being thankful for a second shot: “TNT’s a great network and we’re excited about it…..It’s very rare that a network show gets to have a second airing – we’re very grateful for that.”

On his Halloween costume: “I went as Jay Leno! He kind of canceled our show, so I thought…[I wore] The Jay Leno mask, jeans shirt and jeans that Jay Leno wears when he’s not in the suit.”

Southland will begin airing on TNT January 12 (Tuesday) at 10/9c!

Southland is back! Yay, more Ben McKenzie!

After rumors of the show’s revival, it’s official: TNT has picked up Southland and will air episodes beginning January 12 on Tuesdays @ 10 PM ET/PT.

“We’re delighted that TNT has stepped forward to pick up Southland,” executive producer John Wells said. “We are all extremely proud of the show.”

The network has exclusive rights to air the first season’s seven episodes as well as six episodes shot for the second season.

The cop drama, which originally premiered on NBC last season to good ratings, was renewed for a second season and subsequently dropped by the network.

The 31-year-old Southland actor celebrated Invisible Children’s efforts to improve life for children in Uganda. Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson hosted the event. Eliza, 28, who attended the event with boyfriend Rick Fox, wore a dress by Guess.

Although Ben got some disappointing news with the early cancellation of Southland, The Hollywood Reporter says TNT may be a new home for the drama.

Eliza‘s Dollhouse is taking a break until December, Fox announced today. However, the network will be airing the remaining episodes this winter in two-hour blocks (yay!).

Ben McKenzie and a few friends dine out at Jerry’s Famous Deli on Saturday (October 10) in West Hollywood, Calif.

On Thursday, NBC canceled the 30-year-old actor’s drama Southland before its season premiere. Ben hasn’t been vocal about the cancellation but his co-star Michael Cudlitz is downright angry.

He tells EW, “I’m pissed. I’ve said it on my Twitter account. I’m pissed off. We had all the pre-season stuff, all the dinners and parties. They told us they loved and believed in the show. They said the [delay] would be good for us. On paper it all made sense so I was willing to believe I was being told the truth… I don’t just walk in one day and go, ‘Eh, I’m not going to act today. I know I told you I was going to act, but I’m not going to do my thing.’ But I guess because they own the ball and the ballpark they get to do that. It’s kind of cheap.”

Unfortunately, Southland was just canceled before the launch of its sophomore season (they already filmed six new episodes). THR reports Dateline NBC will run in its place.

Ben McKenzie attends the Storypalooza! storytelling festival at Crossroads Elementary School on Saturday afternoon (September 26) in Santa Monica, Calif.

Storypalooza is a festival featuring children’s storytelling games, musical guests, and a live performance of scripts by an all-star cast. The festival is being organized by the Young Storytellers Foundation, a Los Angeles based non-profit organization dedicated to developing literacy, self-expression and self-esteem in elementary school students through the art of storytelling.
