J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Creates 20-Page Guide on Dismantling White Supremacy at Work & at Large

J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot are hard at work supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and the fight against white supremacy.

The 53-year-old filmmaker, who directed films in the Star Wars franchise and created such TV shows as Lost and Alias, already committed to donating $10 million to anti-racist agendas over the next five years.

Now, Bad Robot has created a 20-page guide that serves as a tool to help dismantle white supremacy at work and at large.

“At Bad Robot, we are committed as storytellers and executives to dismantling white supremacy at work and at large,” the document reads. “With this ever-evolving and far from complete guide, we hope to share some resources to explore and navigate this time for ourselves and with each other as we strive to do the delicate, raw, humbling, and enraging work of anti-racism.”

The company noted, “We have provided attribution to our sources throughout the guide and thank the activists and scholars who have endeavored to consolidate this information. This guide draws from our networks, research, recommendations, and the “Anti-racism resources for white people.”

The guide features articles to read, videos to watch, podcasts to listen to, movies to view, and important Black voices to follow on social media. There is also a guide to anti-racist vocabulary, details of what you should do as a manager at work, and a list of ways people can help the cause.

“I want to thank all of the amazing people that took the time to speak to us directly. I am blown away with your knowledge, eagerness to teach and commitment to ensuring Black voices are not silenced. Educating ourselves is the first step if we hope to make any progress in bringing an end to systemic racism. As much as one might want to believe things have gotten better we cannot deny any longer that they have not. We need to acknowledge that social, political and economic discrimination against Black communities continues to exist. There is a deep pain that needs to be healed. Unless this is recognized history will continue to repeat itself over and over,” she wrote.

“Tomorrow is Juneteenth which commemorates the day slaves in Texas were told they were free on June 19th 1865. To learn more of the history and the movement to make it a national holiday read The article in my bio. Please take the day to have conversations with your family and friends about the importance of Black Lives Matter and how we all need to join together to ensure equality and justice and then continue these conversations every day!” she continued.

“Everyone needs to have their voices heard and we can do that by VOTING! We will not let voter suppression stop us! Check out @whenweallvote to get registered and find other helpful resources,” Selena also said.

“It’s not lost on me how fortunate I am to have this platform and appreciate you all for taking the time to watch, listen and take in the powerful messages and information we’ve been provided over the last two weeks by some of the most inspiring people I’ve come across in my life. If you missed any of these incredible IG stories they are all saved in my Story Highlights under #BLM and #BLM2. Taylor Swift Explains Why Juneteenth Should Be Celebrated as a National Holiday

Taylor Swift is opening up about the importance of Juneteenth and why the day should be celebrated as a National holiday.

The 30-year-old singer shared an article from The Root that included a video of the history of the holiday.

“Happy Juneteenth! I want to thank @TheRoot and @RhapsoDani for allowing me to post this video about the significance of today, June 19th, and why it should be celebrated as a National holiday,” Taylor tweeted right after the stroke of midnight on June 19.

Taylor continued, “Personally, I’ve made the decision to give all of my employees June 19th off in honor of Freedom Day from now on, and to continue to educate myself on the history that brought us to this present moment.”

“For my family, everything that has transpired recently gives us an opportunity to reflect, listen, and reprogram any part of our lives that hasn’t been loudly and ferociously anti-racist, and to never let privilege lie dormant when it could be used to stand up for what’s right,” she concluded.

Last week, Taylor spoke out against statues of racist historical figures and said that she doesn’t think that states should replace any of the ones torn down by protesters.

Netflix CEO Donates $120 Million to Historically Black Colleges & Universities

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has pledged a huge donation to black education in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests against systemic racism and police brutality following the killing of George Floyd.

Reed, 59, and wife Patty Quillin have pledged $120 million to the United Negro College Fund and two historically black colleges based in Atlanta: Spelman College and Morehouse College, NBC News reports.

“The times are the most stressed, the most painful, that we’ve ever seen in our lives,” Reed shared. “But out of that pain can come some opportunity, too. And maybe this will be the moment things change.”

Reed explained that the donation is “the best gift we’ve ever given.”

“We wanted to do our part to draw attention, in this case, to the HBCU’s 150 years of resilience, of education young Black people and the stories not well understood in the white community,” Reed said.

Netflix also recently launched a curated Black Lives Matter category to show their support for the movement.
