Broadway's 'Hamilton' Cast Pays Tribute to Prince - Watch Now!

Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast of the smash hit Broadway show Hamilton paid tribute to the late Prince following a performance on Thursday (April 21) in New York City.

The legendary entertainer passed away earlier in the day at the age of 57 and it is alleged that he may have been treated for a drug overdose just days earlier.

“Step away from your computer. Walk around, blast some Prince. It’s the only thing that has saved my day, it may save yours,” Lin-Manuel tweeted earlier in the day.

Jennifer Hudson sings her heart out while performing Prince‘s song “Purple Rain” during a tribute to the late singer on Thursday (April 21) in New York City.

The Oscar-winning actress and her co-star Cynthia Erivo led the cast of The Color Purple in the tribute following the performance of their Broadway show.

“Not too long ago, [Prince] called me while we were here and asked me to come out to this event because he was writing his book and he told me you can bring your cast members along,” Jennifer said. “We were honored to be in his presence one last time and we got to have that moment.”

“He said his music will live on and he will live through his music so we want to keep him alive today with this song,” Jennifer added.

Sara Bareilles Records Turn-Off-Your-Phone Song for Broadway's 'Waitress' - Listen Now!

Sara Bareilles wrote the music and lyrics for the new Broadway show Waitress and she also recorded a fun “turn-off-your-phone” song that plays before the start of the musical!

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter decided to write the song after a cell phone went off during an important moment of an early preview performance.

“The team and I spoke after the show, and I suggested a cell phone announcement that I would write and sing myself. I decided to rewrite the words to a song of mine called ‘Cassiopeia,’ and try to make something funny, in the style of the show, but that would still get the point across,” Sara told the Associated Press.

Betsy Wolfe Wins Role of Elsa in 'Frozen' Musical

Broadway vet Betsy Wolfe will be starring as Queen Elsa in the upcoming Frozen musical.

The 33-year-old Broadway veteran, who’s known for her roles in Bullets Over Broadway and Everyday Rapture, reunites her with Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who she worked with on Up Here in San Diego in 2015.

The Frozen musical will be directed by Alex Timbers and is set to hit the Broadway stage at the St. James Theatre in spring 2018 after the premiere in 2017 in Denver, Colorado.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Reacts to 'Hamilton' Pulitzer Prize Win with 'Newsies' GIF!

Lin-Manuel Miranda has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his work on the groundbreaking Broadway musical Hamilton.

Only eight other musicals have ever won the prize with the last two being Rent and Next to Normal.

Lin-Manuel took to his Twitter account after the news was announced to share a GIF of Christian Bale in the movie Newsies. If you aren’t familiar with the film, the character is a newsboy fighting against the real-life Pulitzer for better pay.

“This man just maxed out my cell data usage for the month. Thanks Joe!” he tweeted with another Newsies photo.

'Anastasia' Musical Officially Heading to Broadway!

A stage version of the beloved animated movie Anastasia is officially heading to Broadway for the 2016-17 season!

The show will have a pre-Broadway tryout run at Hartford Stage in Connecticut starting on May 12 starring theater actress Christy Altomare in the title role.

Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, who wrote the original songs for the 1997 movie, will write the score for the musical. It will include classic songs like “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December” from the film.

Darko Tresnjak, who won a Tony Award for his work on A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, will direct the musical.

Barbra Streisand Will Finally Play Mama Rose in 'Gypsy' Movie

Barbra Streisand is nearing the end of negotiations to play the iconic role of Mama Rose in a new movie version of the classic musical Gypsy.

The 73-year-old actress has been attached to the project for many years and at one point she was said to be directing the film.

Barbra will produce alongside Joel Silver and the movie is set to be made with STX Entertainment. Oscar-winner Barry Levinson will direct while Richard LaGravenese will write the script.

“It’s Barbra Streisand doing one more, if not the last, movie musical of her career,” STX chairman Adam Fogelson told Variety. He says he is excited by “the type of talent that is clamoring to work with her on one of the most famous and satisfying musicals ever.”
