There were rumors that Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich were trying to reconcile after splitting up earlier this year.

However, the 32-year-old dancer, singer, and actress filed for divorce from Brooks, 37, earlier this week, officially ending things.

A source is now speaking out about why things did not work out.

“They were trying to get their marriage to work for a long time,” a source told People. “They both made many changes and compromised, but it just wasn’t enough. They don’t have the same vision for the future.”

Julianne and Brooks have been separated since May 2020, and were trying to give their marriage another shot, but it seems that things didn’t work out.

The couple met and dated for several years before getting married in 2017.

Julianne and Brooks had been quarantining in separate states as the pandemic swept over the country, with him relocating to Idaho to work on their home there.

“I’ve been on my own. My husband is in Idaho doing lots of yard work…and so we’re kind of doing our separate things right now. But it’s really been a magical time,” she had said at the time during an interview with Oprah magazine.

Just before announcing their separation, Julianne was spotted out with this British film star.

“Julianne and Brooks both want to try to make things work,” a source told ET. “Friends closest to them see this time as very positive.”

They are “hoping for a full reconciliation.”

“They missed being together and they both realized they’d taken each other for granted,” the source added, saying they are “both working on being open and respectful of each other.”

Last month, the pair were seen out to lunch together amid reports that they were “considering” getting back together. Well, it looks like things are heading in a good direction according to this new source report!

Exactly three months after they confirmed their separation, it appears there’s a chance that Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich might reconcile their relationship!

The 32-year-old dancer and actress and the 37-year-old former hockey player were spotted having lunch together on Thursday (August 27) in Los Angeles.

A source has told People that Brooks wants to get back together with Julianne and she’s “considering” it.

“Brooks really still wants to make it work and she’s considering it but taking her time. He’s open to whatever it will take,” the source said. “Julianne likes the idea of freedom but doesn’t want to lose such a good, solid guy. Everyone who knows him knows how grounded and great he is. Her friends and family don’t want her to lose someone like that.”

Helping Julianne celebrate her birthday was her ex-husband Brooks Laich and BFF Nina Dobrev. Nina took to her Instagram Story to share a ton of photos and videos from Julianne‘s party.

In one post, Julianne jumps onto a raft in the pool while Brooks laughs in the background.

On her own Instagram Story, Julianne shared a pic along with the caption, “Feeling super loved right now.”

Julianne and Brooks announced back in May that they were separating after three years of marriage. The two have remained friendly, with Julianne often commenting on Brooks‘ Instagram posts.

It was recently reported that Brooks is “still open” to giving their marriage another shot.

Julianne officially turned 32 on Monday, July 20.

Brooks Laich isn’t giving up hope on his marriage with Julianne Hough just yet.

The 37-year-old retired hockey player is “definitely still open to getting back together with Julianne,” a source shared with People.

“If that were an option, he would be all in,” the source continued. “Her friends and family love him, and everyone is pulling for him. He’s a great guy, and they would love to see Julianne give things another chance.”
