'Bumblebee' Gets Release Date, John Cena Joins Cast!

Bumblebee, the Transformers spinoff film starring Hailee Steinfeld, has officially been given a release date of December 21, 2018.

A press release also revealed that John Cena has officially joined the cast as principal photography began today (July 31) in California.

Here’s a synopsis of the film: On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

'Transformers' Spinoff 'Bumblebee' Rounds Out Young Cast

The upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee is coming together.

According to THR, Paramount just cast a bunch of young actors, including Diary of a Wimpy Kid‘s Jason Drucker, Landline‘s Abby Quinn, Rio 2‘s Rachel Crow, Degrassi: Next Class‘s Ricardo Hoyos, and Zoo actress Gracie Dzienny.

In case you’re not familiar with the franchise, Bumblebee is the black and yellow Autobot in the other movies.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, sources tell the mag that it will be a prequel focused on Bumblebee’s life in the 80s.

The film will also star Hailee Steinfeld and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.

Jorge Lendeborg Jr. has landed the lead male role in the upcoming Transformers spin-off focusing on the character Bumblebee!

The young actor can currently be seen in a small role in Spider-Man: Homecoming and he has a role in next year’s Alita: Battle Angel.

The plot of the upcoming film is not yet know, but Hailee Steinfeld is set to play “a tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school,” according to THR.

The movie will reportedly be a prequel to the Transformers franchise.
