Caroline Flack has sadly died.

The former Love Island UK host died at the age of 40 at her home in East London, England, The Sun reported on Saturday (February 15).

“We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time,” a family statement reads.

The Independent confirmed that she took her own life, according to a lawyer for her family.

Back in December, Caroline was arrested for assault following an altercation with her boyfriend, Lewis Burton. She stepped down from the show immediately afterward. She pleaded not guilty, and was on bail awaiting trial this March.

One day before on Valentine’s Day (February 14), Caroline made a return to social media to post a series of pictures with her dog.

Caroline Flack is stepping down from Love Island UK following the assault charges against her.

The 40-year-old host of the British reality TV show took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday (December 17) to make the announcement.

“There have been a significant number of media reports and allegations in regards to my personal life,” she wrote. “While matters were not as have been reported, I am committed to cooperating with the appropriate authorities and I can’t comment further on these matters until the legal process is over.”

“However, Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly,” Caroline Flack added. “In order not to detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is stand down for Series 6. I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.”

The first winter version of Love Island, moving from Mallorca to South Africa, will premiere in January on ITV2 in the U.K.

“ITV has a long standing relationship with Caroline and we understand and accept her decision,” a spokesperson for ITV told People. “We will remain in contact with her over the coming months about future series of Love Island.”

Caroline Flack is under arrest for assault.

The 30-year-old host of Love Island UK was arrested and charged with assault by beating after reports of a man being attacked, The Guardian reported on Friday (December 13).

The man in question was “not seriously injured.”

She will appear on bail at Highbury Corner magistrates court on December 23, a police spokesperson confirmed.

“We were called yesterday [Thursday 12 December] at 5.28am to a residential address in Islington. We treated two people at the scene and took one person to hospital,” an ambulance spokersperson said in a statement.

“We confirm that police attended Caroline’s home following a private domestic incident. She is cooperating with the appropriate people to resolve matters. We will not be making any further comment for legal reasons,” added her spokesperson.

Olly Murs made what he calls a “massive f–k up” during the latest episode of the UK’s The X Factor.

The 31-year-old British singer, who got his start on the series, is hosting the series this season alongside Caroline Flack. While announcing the results on Sunday night, he accidentally told a contestant she was going home prematurely.

Olly had to ask the judges to vote on who they were sending home, but before they could all give their votes, he told one contestant she was off the show.

“Unfortunately Monica you are going home I’m afraid,” he said before Caroline chimed in with, “No, Olly, she’s not, nope.”

“Sorry. I apologize for that. Sorry Monica. I do apologize. I made a mistake. I do apologize,” Olly added. Unfortunately for contestant Monica Michael, she ended up going home anyways.

Simon Cowell stops to pose on the red carpet while arriving at the press launch of The X Factor UK held at the Picturehouse Central on Wednesday evening (August 26) in London, England.
