Like the rest of the world, Seth Rogen is settling in to social distance amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The Knocked Up actor decided to live-tweet the Cats movie, which is now available for streaming, to pass the time – and the resulting tweets are hilarious.
If you didn’t already know, Cats was almost universally panned by critics, earning it several Razzie Awards, and making it the butt of many jokes in Hollywood. Now, Seth Rogen is getting in his shots!
Check out what Seth had to say about the movie…
I’m pretty stoned and watching Cats. I’ve never seen the broadway show. It is truly trippy. Am I supposed to know what a Jellicle is? They’ve said it 200,000 times but I don’t know what’s happening haha.
The world definitely had its fun at the expense of Cats when it first hit theaters – and now, the Razzie Award-winning film is available to watch while you’re stuck safely self-isolating at home!
The film adaptation of the musical, released back in December, is now available digitally as of Tuesday (March 17).
Judi Dench says that she still hasn’t seen her controversial movie Cats and she’s reacting to the news that she was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress at the Razzies.
The 85-year-old actress played the role of Old Deuteronomy in the film and she says she hasn’t even read about what people think of the movie.
“I didn’t read anything about the response to it, nor have I seen it,” Judi said on BBC Radio 4 (via EW).
“I’ve only seen a picture of myself [from the film],” she added. “I once had a cat [who looked] like that, called Carpet, and I didn’t realize I was playing Carpet. I thought I was playing a kind of, you know, mangier cat who didn’t have much fur. I didn’t realize I was this wonderful show cat!”
Judi says she hasn’t watched the movie because of her struggle with macular degeneration, which makes it hard for her to read or view films.
“I was aware of the response only slightly, I think people had been rather kind to me,” she said. When told she is nominated for a Razzie, Judi said, “Oh, am I? That would be good! As far as I know, that’s a first!”
The co-stars presented the award for Best Visual Effects and joked, “As cast members of the motion picture Cats, nobody more than us understands the importance of good visual effects.”
As you’re probably aware, the movie Cats was critically panned and a lot of the criticism had to do with the visual effects.
Now, the Visual Effects Society is slamming the Oscars for that whole bit.
“Last night, in presenting the Academy Award for Outstanding Visual Effects, the producers chose to make visual effects the punchline, and suggested that bad VFX were to blame for the poor performance of the movie Cats. The best visual effects in the world will not compensate for a story told badly,” the organization said in a statement.
“On a night that is all about honoring the work of talented artists, it is immensely disappointing that The Academy made visual effects the butt of a joke. It demeaned the global community of expert VFX practitioners doing outstanding, challenging and visually stunning work to achieve the filmmakers’ vision,” the statement continued.
“Our artists, technicians and innovators deserve respect for their remarkable contributions to filmed entertainment, and should not be presented as the all-too-convenient scapegoat in service for a laugh,” the society added. “Moving forward, we hope that The Academy will properly honor the craft of visual effects – and all of the crafts, including cinematography and film editing – because we all deserve it.”
The Cats co-stars hilariously showed up to present dressed in cat costumes at the 2020 Academy Awards on Sunday (February 9) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
“As cast members of the film Cats, no one better than us understands the importance of good visual effects,” they hilariously said while poking fun at their widely panned film.
The two eventually presented the award for Best Visual Effects, which went to 1917. Find out who else is taking home awards at the ceremony!
Taylor Swift is issuing her reaction to being in the Cats movie after the film was very poorly received and reviewed.
“I’m happy to be here, happy to be nominated,” she told Variety of her song nomination at the Golden Globes. Adding about filming Cats, “I had a really great time working on that weird-ass movie. I’m not gonna retroactively decide that it wasn’t the best experience. I never would have met Andrew Lloyd Webber or gotten to see how he works, and now he’s my buddy. I got to work with the sickest dancers and performers. No complaints.”
After seeing the new movie, the 11-year-old Young Sheldon star took to his Facebook account on Sunday (December 29) to post a review praising the movie.
“Finally got to see Cats the Movie!! Especially enjoyed Dame Judy Dench as Old Deuteronomy and Sir Ian McKellen as Gus. Actually loved ALL the parts where there were cats who sang and danced lol,” Iain wrote.
Iain seems to be the only person so far to like Cats. The film has received major criticism from both critics and moviegoers.
