Celine Dion Recalls Her Final Moments with Rene-Angelil Before His Death

Celine Dion has given her first television interview since the tragic death of her husband Rene Angelil.

During the interview, the 48-year-old superstar entertainer described her final moments spent with her husband just before he passed away.

“You were worrying for my career. You were worrying for the children. You were worrying for everything. It’s enough. Do you trust me? Please do. Trust me,” Celine recalled saying to Rene Angelil on his deathbed. “The kids are fine. I’m fine. I promise you we’re gonna be okay. Please leave in peace. I don’t want you to worry.”

Celine also recalled how she told their children, five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, and 15-year-old Rene-Charles, about their father’s death.

“Before I told them that their dad was not there, I talked about when we, everybody, gets sick. Then I said, ‘Do you remember the movie ‘Up,’” Celine said. “It’s one of our favorites…’Oh,’ they said, ‘Yes, Ellie went up. You know, she, with the balloons.’ And I said, ‘Well, yeah … You know, today Papa went up.’”

“The only thing I wanted is for them to say up,” Celine continued. “Up is a good thing. Up is uplifting. Papa was very sick. He didn’t have a sore throat. He did not have a bellyache. He did not have an earache. Do you remember Papa had a tube in his belly? Do you have a tube in your belly? Do you? I don’t. That’s really, really, really, really, really sick.”

Celine Dion Pays Tribute to Rene Angelil at First Concert Back in Las Vegas (Video)

Celine Dion sings her heart out while performing in her first concert since the death of her husband Rene Angelil on Tuesday (February 23) at The Colosseum in Las Vegas, Nev.

The 47-year-old singer added a couple songs to the set as a tribute to Rene and she spoke about his death.

“Through my life I only had eyes for my husband, who sat out here night after night,” Celine said. “People thought that I was looking at him but I didn’t need to because every time I closed my eyes, I felt Rene on stage with me — whether he was seated in his seat right there, in the balcony, backstage, or at home with the kids. He’s always been on stage with me and nothing will ever change that.”

“I might not hear his voice yet, but I talk to him, I think of him all the time,” Celine said towards the end of the speech. “I feel and I know he hears me, one way or another. I know he will give me a sign for his approval or not. And now I can feel that he is telling me to zip it and start singing.”

Celine Dion Gets Emotional During René Angélil's Memorial Service

Celine Dion gets very emotional during a memorial service for her late husband René Angélil at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace on Wednesday (February 3) in Las Vegas, Nev.

“Let me start by saying good evening good friends. Rene, the love of my life, would be so happy to know we are here together. I feel the love in this room,” the 47-year-old entertainer told the crowd. “This is my home away from home. At the same time I’m supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home and right now I’m not sure how comfortable I feel.”

René never hated anyone. Is it possible someone loves everybody? I don’t think so. But he never told me a person he disliked. Time was precious to him. He loved life so much, so very much,” Celine added. The couple’s son Rene-Charles, 14, watched on as his mom gave her heartfelt speech.

You can watch the entire memorial service here.
