Celine Dion is speaking out for the first time since her husband Rene Angelil‘s death.
The 47-year-old singer greeted thousands of mourners who showed up to Rene‘s open casket visitation on Thursday (January 21) at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Canada.
“The support we’ve received has been such a blessing,” Celine told People.
Celine was joined by her 15-year-old son Rene-Charles and her step-sons Patrick and Jean-Pierre in the receiving line.
Several people opened up to the mag about why they waited for more than three hours to meet Celine and pay their respects.
“I did tell Celine, ‘thank you for being here’ because she’s receiving everyone, one person at a time, and she’s taking more of her time. That’s why we kind of froze for hours before getting inside: It was worth it because it wasn’t like in-and-out, in-and-out – she actually took the time; she shook our hand, and some actually even kissed her,” one well-wisher from Montreal said. “It was very personal words, even the eye contact. She was very sincere.”
Rene‘s funeral will take place on Friday (January 22) at 3pm.
