Chance the Rapper Drops Surprise Track on Soundcloud After Pledging to Save Streaming Service

Chance the Rapper just debuted a new track with Young Thug on music streaming service Soundcloud, amid rumors the site could be shutting down.

The 24-year-old musician and Young Thug dropped “Big B’s” on the site, just days after the company was forced to lay off almost 40 percent of its staff.

After hearing the rumors the site could be going bankrupt, Chance took to his Twitter to let fans know he was “working on the SoundCloud thing.”

He later wrote, “@ an artist who you wouldn’t know if not for SoundCloud…Now link me to a song on SoundCloud that you swear you’re responsible for like at least a thousand plays,” referring to the site’s popularity for artist discovery.

On Friday (July 14), Chance revealed that he had a “very fruitful” conversation with Soundcloud CEO Alex Ljung, assuring fans, “SoundCloud is here to stay.”

Hours later, he dropped the new track as a Soundcloud exclusive.
