Chuy Bravo, best known for being Chelsea Handler‘s sidekick on her talk show Chelsea Lately, died over the weekend and now his cause of death has been revealed.

The 63-year-old TV personality’s rep released a statement after his untimely passing.

“On Saturday, December 14 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Bravo was rushed to the emergency room due to a Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage (GI Bleed.) After complications he suffered an Acute Myocardial Infarction that led to his passing,” his rep said (via People).

“Bravo’s funeral services took place today and will be cremated. His family has confirmed he will be brought back to Los Angeles (no date has been set) for a memorial service,” the statement added.

“Bravo’s family is devastated as they cope with his sudden loss,” the statement concluded. “They are overwhelmed with the thoughts and prayers they have received and send their appreciation.”

Chelsea Handler is speaking out to pay tribute to her late sidekick Chuy Bravo, who passed away over the weekend.

No details about Chuy‘s death have been revealed yet, but he reportedly died “suddenly” on Saturday night (December 14) while in Mexico City.

“I loved this nugget in a big way, and I took great pleasure in how many people loved him as much as I did and do. @chuybravo gave us so much laughter and I’ll never forget the sound of his laughter coming from his office into mine. Or his ‘business calls’ with his ‘business manager,’ or his shoe rack with all his children-sized shoes,” Chelsea wrote on Instagram.

Chelsea also told a story about what happened when Chuy came to visit her family for Christmas one year.

“I’ll never forget him coming to Christmas with my family one year in the Florida keys, and when my niece who was 5 or 6 at the time—saw him, she ran in the other direction saying she was scared,” she said. “My sister and I were mortified and were apologizing to Chuy, who told us, ‘it’s ok, lots of little kids get scared when they see big kids coming their way.’ I love you, Chuy!

Chuy Bravo has sadly died.

The Mexican-American actor, known best as Chelsea Handler‘s sidekick on Chelsea Lately, died “suddenly” on Saturday night (December 14), ET confirmed on Sunday (December 15).

There are no details regarding his death. He had just turned 63 on December 7, which Chelsea tributed with a post on her Instagram.

“Happy birthday Chuy, and thank you for 8 years of heavy petting,” she wrote at the time.

He also appeared in The Honeymooners and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and briefly appeared on the competition show Splash. In addition to his TV appearances, he was also the founder and face of Chuy’s restaurant.
