Clive Owen Talks Turning 50 in 'Prestige Hong Kong'

Clive Owen keeps it serious on the cover of Prestige Hong Kong magazine’s November 2014 issue, out on newsstands now!

Here’s what the 50-year-old actor had to share with the mag:

On turning 50: “The beauty of being an actor is that as you get older it’s ever changing. There are always parts to play. That journey is easier for men.”

On becoming a Hollywood movie star: “Some people start in the acting game and they hate the in and out of work, and that other people determine if they’re going to work, but i was always a really great fan of the idea that tomorrow a script could arrive that could set me alight, the possibility of change, the potential that something great could be out there.”

On the success of his 20 year marriage: “We’ve known each other such a long time. It might have been different if one partner was very successful when you meet, but because we go back way back when, not really. The hardest part is traveling, of course.”

Clive Owen on Advancing in Acting: The Best Career Move is To Be Good & Hungry

Clive Owen is all suited up and looking handsome on the cover of GQ‘s first ever age issue for October 2014, on newsstands now.

Here’s what the 49-year-old The Knick actor had to share with the mag:

On never wanting to retire: “No. Whatever age you are, there’s a role that’s about who you are and where you are. There’s parts for that age that you’ll be rich, that you can bring things to. So unless I was incapable, I imagine myself still working, yeah.”

On “career moves”: “There’s a little period in my career where I kind of lost sight of it a little bit. Acting, like a lot of things in life, is so much about appetite”wanting to do it, feeling you can do it, feeling like you’ve got something to do. An appetite, a hunger for it. You start making choices based on a career, a “career move””I don’t even know what that is”thinking that’s the right thing to do or whatever. I don’t function very well if I just respond to the material goal. If I have the appetite, it doesn’t matter how the whole thing pans out. Good, bad, it’s the appetite that carries you through it. The best career move is to be good, and the best way to be good is to be hungry for it, to want to do it.”

On thinking there’s nothing after death: “I think we’re struggling to make sense of something that never really does make sense, is my theory. Anything post”this life is a desperate attempt to make sense of something that doesn’t really make sense. Life is scarily random, and that’s what I believe. I believe we shape all these things to make us feel a bit better about it. I don’t shape anything. I think when it ends, it ends. When I think about it, I think the reverberations of us as people carry on through other people.”

Clive Owen Has Never Played a Character Like His Role in 'Knick'

Clive Owen sits down with Seth Meyers for an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday (August 6) in New York City.

The 49-year-old actor promoted his new Cinemax show The Knick, which premieres tonight!

“A brilliant but very volatile character, a drug addict who’s struggling,” Clive told the Huffington Post about his character. “I don’t think I’ve played a character like him because he’s so unpredictable. He is a bit of a wild man. But he and his fellow surgeons were on a cusp of groundbreaking change in a number of areas. There’s a slight element throughout, that the characters are shooting from the hip a bit, testing things out. They were beginning travel to Europe to study and share discoveries. It was a very exciting time. On the other hand, it’s said one in four patients died after surgery at the time. And your eyes will open wide when you see the first open theater surgery scene.”
