Connie Britton May Exit 'Nashville' Early, Only Signed on For 10 Episodes

Connie Britton may not be returning for the entirety of Nashville season five after all.

Sources tell EW that the star of the show – who plays the role of famous country singer Rayna James – has only signed on for 10 episodes out of the 22 total for the season. Sources add that execs remain hopeful Connie will sign on for all 22, but a deal has not been made at this time.

Hayden Panettiere, the show’s other star, is on board for all 22 episodes. It’s unclear how Rayna’s absence will be explained.

The site also reports that Connie is likely to exit the show after season 5.

'Nashville' Gets Picked Up By CMT For Season 5 Renewal!

The news Nashville fans have been waiting for has arrived – CMT is renewing the show for a fifth season!

The beloved series will return for a fifth season that will be broadcast on CMT and streamed on Hulu thanks to a unique deal that was reached on Thursday (June 9) after weeks of negotiations, according to Tennessean.

The show was canceled by ABC after a four-season run due to the ratings not being up to par, but fans of the show banded together and launched a social media campaign to save the country music-focused drama.

WHAT DID YOU THINK of Nashville coming back?

'Nashville' & CMT Are Close to a Season 5 Renewal Deal!

This is super exciting news for Nashville fans – CMT is very close to renewing the show for a fifth season!

The beloved series was canceled by ABC after four seasons and the show’s studio, Lionsgate Television, has been shopping it around to other buyers.

Variety reports that “it looks like Nashville will be saved” by the country music network. While the ratings for Nashville weren’t up to par for ABC at the end of season four, if CMT brings in the same numbers, it will be big for the network.

It is expected that the network will announce the renewal during the CMT Awards on Wednesday night (June 8), according to TV Line.

'Nashville' Is In Talks with 4 to 5 Platforms for Season Five

There is a likely chance that the beloved ABC series Nashville will come back for a fifth season as four to five networks and platforms are in talks to renew the show!

Execs for Lionsgate, the studio behind the show, opened up about the possibility of the series returning in an earnings call with reporters.

“The fans and everyone else is clamoring for many more seasons,” Lionsgate’s head of TV, Kevin Beggs, said (via Variety).

While the studio is looking for just one more season at this point, they see it going on for much longer.

“We kind of go one season at a time in our thinking. Our near-term plan is to get another full season,” Beggs added. “These kinds of shows can go forever and ever — obviously that’s our hope and expectation, but we’ve to to do it one season at a time. So right now, we’re all about Season 5. So we hope to land Season 5 and keep talking about this show for years to come.”

If the series is renewed, the cast will be back as they “have long-term deals with” the stars of the show.

Fans are definitely hoping for more episodes after that big cliffhanger ending in the season four finale, which could be the series finale.
