Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds Explains Why He's a 'Unique' Mormon

Imagine Dragons star Dan Reynolds is opening up about his faith.

The 31-year-old rocker discussed reconciling his faith while also being an outspoken ally for the LGBTQ community in an interview with People.

“I’m a very unique Mormon. I hate that people have to be pigeonholed. Some days I don’t believe in anything — some days I’m probably more atheist than your atheist friend. And some days I want to pray to God,” he said.

“A lot of times, people are raised in something that they had no say in. There are many people who are raised in extremely religious homes that had no say in the matter: That’s just their culture that they were born into. So to judge people based off that is a very dangerous thing. I think people need more room to just be unique but also be a part of a culture if it feels good for them, but also have their own beliefs within it. I just hate generalizing.”

“I have family and friends I grew up with who are LGBTQ and Mormon or religious. I watched their constant struggle. They were told to change something about them that is unchangeable,” he added.

Imagine Dragons recently spoke out against LGBTQ conversion therapy live at an awards show. See what they said!

Dan Reynolds, Aloe Blacc & More Open Up About Working With the Late Avicii

Avicii is on the cover of Spin‘s June 2019 issue, out now.

Aloe Blacc, Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds, and collaborator Carl Falk are among the stars paying tribute to the late EDM superstar.

Here’s what they had to say…

Aloe, on learning the lyrics to “SOS”: “Had he released it, it potentially could have been the lynchpin to holding together whatever moment might’ve triggered him and having support from millions and millions of fans, you know?”

Dan, on Avicii’s creative vision: “He knew what he wanted to hear. I remember singing melody after melody like, ‘na na na na!’ and he would be like, ‘Hmm.’ Then I sang the melody that became ‘Heart Upon My Sleeve’ and his eyes lit up. He was like, ‘Yes!’”

Carl, on the dark side of Avicii’s work ethic: “He’d call eight hours after I left the studio, and he’d still be there with his half eaten cheeseburger laying on the laptop. It was terrible to see. We had to make sure that he slept, that he ate.”
