New York Giants' Daniel Fells Has Serious Staph Infection, May Lose Foot After 5 Surgeries

New York Giants starting tight end Daniel Fells contracted a dangerous staph infection and may have to have his foot amputated, the NFL reports.

The 32-year-old football star was complaining on ankle and foot pain for days, and was finally taken to a hospital when he developed a high fever on October 2.

It was discovered that he had contracted MRSA, which is a form of staph which is resistant to many antibiotics.

He is in the Intensive Care Unit, and has reportedly undergone five surgeries to try and save his ankle and foot. The Giants, in the meanwhile, have consulted with a disease specialist and have scrubbed down their facilities.

“This is a serious situation that has been taken seriously from the beginning. We’re all fighting for Daniel,” Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said.

We are sending our thoughts to Daniel during this time.
