Cher Confirms David Letterman Paid $28,000 for Her First Appearance on His Show

Cher is finally opening up about the rumors that she was paid by David Letterman‘s team to appear as a guest on The Late Show for the first time in 1986.

The legendary entertainer famously had refused to appear on the program and when she finally did sit down for an interview, she called him an “assh–e” on air.

“I had a $28,000 hotel bill and Dave Letterman had always asked me to be on his show,” Cher said over the weekend during a concert (via People). “And I said, ‘Yes if you have $28,000.’ But they said no.”

“Then they called back and said yes!” she added. “The producers said, ‘Why did you never want to be on the show before this?’ and I said, ‘Because [Letterman] is very smart and funny but he can be so cruel if he doesn’t like the people.’”

Letterman has previously said the rumors were untrue and said, “If you think this show will cover that hotel bill, you were sadly misled.”

David Letterman Slams Trump, Says We Need to Protect Ourselves from Him

David Letterman has a lot to say about President Donald Trump and he’s opening up in a new interview with New York magazine.

The 69-year-old former late night host says that we need to find a way to protect ourselves from Trump.

“I’m tired of people being bewildered about everything [Trump] says: ‘I can’t believe he said that.’ We gotta stop that and, instead, figure out ways to protect ourselves from him. We know he’s crazy. We gotta take care of ourselves here now,” Letterman said. “Comedy’s one of the ways that we can protect ourselves. The man has such thin skin that if you keep pressure on him”I remember there was a baseball game in Cleveland, and a swarm of flies came on the field and the batters were [swatting flies] while the pitcher was throwing 100 miles an hour.”

“Well, that’s Alec Baldwin and Saturday Night Live. It’s distracting the batter. Eventually Trump‘s going to take a fastball off the sternum and have to leave the game,” he added.

Letterman also opened up about the days when he would have Trump on his show.

“He was a joke of a wealthy guy. We didn’t take him seriously. He’d sit down, and I would just start making fun of him. He never had any retort. He was big and doughy, and you could beat him up. He seemed to have a good time, and the audience loved it, and that was Donald Trump,” he said.

Tina Fey Feels Like Misogyny Is More Real Than Ever

Tina Fey lets the wind blow her gorgeous hair for the latest cover of The Hollywood Reporter.

Here’s what the 46-year-old actress and writer had to share:

On her famous friends: “I have a group of women that I worked with at SNLMaya Rudolph, Emily Spivey, Paula Pell, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Rachel Dratch – and we talk as a group through the computer every single day. Dozens of times a day. And it’s very nice. It’s something we’ve come to in our 40s. It was easy when we worked at SNL: You’re on top of each other 60 hours a week. So it’s nice that we are maintaining this friendship.”

On where she goes on vacation: “Ohio and Disney World. That’s about it. Ohio is where my husband’s family is. I’m from Pennsylvania. I like to go to Cape May, New Jersey. And I also have a little house on Fire Island. My neighbor always goes, ‘Don’t tell people. People on Fire Island don’t want people to know about that.’”

On feminism and the election results: “It feels like we were on the precipice of things getting pretty good, and now we’re in a bit of a throwback moment. I definitely came out of last month feeling misogyny is much more real than two years ago. But the thing I worry about [more] than actual human interaction is the internet. Because that’s just despicable: people just being able to be awful to each other without having to be in the same room. It’s metastasizing now, thanks to our glorious president-elect who can’t muster the dignity of a seventh-grader. It’s so easy for people to abuse each other and to abandon all civility.”

David Letterman Thought a Woman Should Host 'The Late Show'

David Letterman is opening up about his thoughts on the new host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, and why he thought a woman should have replaced him.

“I’m happy for the guys – men and women – there should be more women. And I don’t know why they didn’t give my show to a woman,” the 69-year-old former talk show host said in an interview with NBC News.

“That would have been fine. You know, I’m happy for their success. And they’re doing things I couldn’t do. So that’s great,” he added.

David also said that he “couldn’t care less about late-night television” and that he doesn’t miss his show as the program now has a different energy.

“When [Stephen] went on the air, an energy left me and I felt like, ‘You know, that’s not my problem anymore,’” he said. “I devoted so much time, to the damage of other aspects of my life. The concentrated, fixated, focusing on that…it’s good now to not have that.”
