Denzel Washington Told Chadwick Boseman To 'Put a Ring On' Taylor Simone Ledward's Finger

Denzel Washington is opening up about one of the more important lessons he passed on to the late Chadwick Boseman before his passing this year.

In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Denzel, 65, opened up about working with Chadwick on his final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and recalled telling Chadwick to marry Taylor Simone Ledward before someone else did.

While filming the movie, Chadwick and Taylor were only dating, but Denzel noted how well she was caring for Chadwick on the set.

“It’s fascinating that nobody knew,” Denzel shared about Chadwick‘s private battle with colon cancer. “Well, credit to him; he kept it to himself. It was nobody’s business. He was there to deliver and he delivered.”

He went on, saying that “Certain members of his team knew. His wife was there. They weren’t even married yet, and I used to watch how she took care of him, and I actually said to him, I said, ‘Man, you know, you need to put a ring on that finger,’ cause she kept her eye on him and she watched him.”

Denzel adds, “And I’m like, ‘Man, she loves that guy.’ You know, but I didn’t know what we know now.”

Chadwick and Taylor were married in a private ceremony earlier in the year and not a lot of people knew he was married until news of his passing shocked fans.

If you didn’t know, Denzel actually paid for Chadwick to attend acting school.

It was just recently reported that Taylor is still entitled to Chadwick‘s estate, despite not being in his will at the time of his death. Get the details here…

Fire Crews Respond to Denzel Washington's Home in Los Angeles

A scary situation happened at Denzel Washington‘s house tonight.

Reports claim that the Los Angeles fire department responded to reports of smoke at Denzel‘s home in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (November 11).

CBS Los Angeles says that everyone safely got out of the home, which is located in the Beverly Crest neighborhood. It wasn’t clear if Denzel was home at the time.

While there were no flames visible, smoke was seen coming out of the second floor of the home. The fire crews are trying to figure out if there was a fire inside the walls.

“The investigation is largely focused on one of several furnaces in the home that may have been recently serviced,” the LAFD said.

Denzel‘s famous son recently revealed what the Oscar winner made him do during the pandemic.

John David Washington Says He Had to Do Chores Again After Moving Back in With Dad Denzel!

John David Washington is opening up about moving back home during the quarantine!

The 36-year-old Tenet star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with guest host Samuel L. Jackson where he talked about living with his dad Denzel Washington once again.

“You really live in Brooklyn, but since the pandemic has happened you had to come back home. So you’re living in the house again, right?” Samuel started.

“Technically not anymore, but I was,” John responded. “I was in my old room.”

Samuel, who has been close friends with the Washington family for years, then asked John if Denzel made him do chores again, as Denzel likes “some order in the house.”

“I can’t believe we’re doing this right now,” John laughed. “There was a chore or two. My chore was to make sure I’m down for dinner in time.”

“That’s not a chore,” Samuel responded. “A chore is like sweeping the driveway, taking the garbage out, something to earn your keep.”

“How about cooking?” John added. “There you go, I earned my keep that way.”

Denzel Washington Paid for Chadwick Boseman to Study Acting at Oxford - Read His Tribute to the Late Actor

When Chadwick Boseman was a student at Howard University, one of his teachers was legendary actress Phylicia Rashad and she encouraged him to apply for a summer program at Oxford University’s drama department in London.

Chadwick was accepted, but he couldn’t afford the tuition so Phylicia found famous friends to pay for him and other students to attend the school. He later learned that Denzel Washington was the person who paid for his schooling!

It wasn’t until the premiere of Black Panther that Chadwick was able to finally thank Denzel for that gift. He told THR that he told Denzel the story on the red carpet and the actor replied, “Oh, so you owe me money! That’s why I’m here — I’m here to collect!”

After hearing about the tragic news of Chadwick‘s death at the age of 43, Denzel released a statement to pay tribute to the late actor.

“He was a gentle soul and a brilliant artist, who will stay with us for eternity through his iconic performances over his short yet illustrious career,” Denzel said in his statement. “God bless Chadwick Boseman.”

Here is the film’s synopsis, via Deadline: “Amanda and Clay’s aspirational vacation with their teenage children is interrupted by the arrival of a middle aged couple who own the holiday home and who have fled an unprecedented blackout in the city. When the internet, television and radio stop working, as does the landline, they have no way of finding out what is happening. As strange sonic booms shatter the peace of the countryside, and animals start to migrate in strange ways, the physical and mental health of the families begins to disintegrate. The renters are upscale and White; the owners are upscale and Black. The issues of race and clash become distractions to the more alarming things are happening all around them.”

Katie Couric Says She Was 'Shaken' & 'Uncomfortable' After This Denzel Washington Interview

Katie Couric is speaking out about the “uncomfortable” interview she had with Denzel Washington back in 2004.

A little backstory: Katie interviewed Denzel on Dateline back in 2004 to promote his film The Manchurian Candidate. During the interview, Katie asked if “Hollywood folks should stick to acting.”

Denzel then responded, “I don’t know what Hollywood folks are, first of all. Hollywood is a town that has some stars on the sidewalk. I don’t know anybody from there. So, I don’t – that’s like saying – calling you a ‘type’ of folks. I’m not a Hollywood folk. I don’t know who they are.”

“Are you one of those people that–” Katie said, attempting to rephrase the question.

Denzel then interrupted, “Ah, there you go. Am I one of those people? Hmmm, isn’t that interesting?” “Oh, stop, stop, stop,” Katie said.

“No, don’t stop. I heard what you just said. ‘Am I one of those people?’ No, I’m not,” Denzel said.

“No, are you an actor who would rather not —” Katie responded back. He then said, “No, I’m not that either. I’m a human being. My job is acting.”

Well, all these years later, Katie spoke about the interview on her recent “Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino” podcast appearance.

“I think he totally misconstrued a question I asked and kind of jumped all over me. It was so uncomfortable because he was doing it with Meryl Streep…” Katie said. “I don’t think I said anything wrong… I don’t know what happened.”

Katie continued, “I think he must have been having a really bad day because he later wrote a really big check to my colon cancer organization, which I thought was super sweet. I love him, I admire him so much. He’s one of my favorite actors, but I remember walking out and feeling really kind of shaken that he had kind of gone after me in a way that was completely, weirdly uncalled for.”

On that same podcast, Katie opened up about another subject everyone has been anxiously awaiting her opinion on.
