UMass Basketball Player Derrick Gordon Dating CSI Actor Gerald McCullouch - See the Pics!

University of Massachusetts basketball player Derrick Gordon and former CSI star Gerald McCullouch have officially revealed that they’re dating!

The 22-year-old player, who recently came out as the first openly gay NCAA Divison I athlete, was accompanied by Gerald, 47, on the red carpet over the weekend at the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards in New York City.

Gerald tells E! News that they first connected via Twitter a few years ago after Derrick saw him in the indie film BearCity. They finally met in person last month, after the athlete had come out to his family.

“Through the years I’ve encouraged him to lead an authentic life and tried my best to offer as much objective support as possible,” Gerald expressed. “It was a scary time for him and I tried my best to assure him that self-acceptance wasn’t anything to be ashamed of and I strongly suggested he find a support team at UMass.”

UMass Basketball Player Derrick Gordon Comes Out as Gay

University of Massachusetts basketball player Derrick Gordon has come out as gay, ESPN reports.

With the help of the UMass men’s basketball coach Derek Kellogg, who brought the whole team together, the 22-year-old player was able to tell his teammates.

“We’re all here together, and we need to love each other for who we are,” Coach Derek said to the team. “One of your family members, your brother, wants to let you know something about himself.” And then Coach Kellogg said, “I wanted to let you all know I’m gay.”

“No, he’s not. But I am,” Derrick then confessed.

“I just didn’t want to hide anymore, in any way,” Derrick said. “I didn’t want to have to lie or sneak. I’ve been waiting and watching for the last few months, wondering when a Division I player would come out, and finally I just said, ‘Why not me?’”

This makes Derrick the first Division 1 men’s college basketball openly gay player.
