'Dr. Phil' Guests Claim Show Staff Aided in Substance Abuse

The Dr. Phil show, hosted by Phil McGraw, is being accused of supplying its guests with alcohol and drugs and aiding in substance abuse.

Todd Herzog, a former winner of Survivor, appeared on the show in 2013 and was so drunk that he was carried onto the set. He tells STAT and the Boston Globe that he was not drunk when he arrived at the studio, but there was a bottle of vodka in his dressing room and he drank it all. He also says he was given a Xanax by someone on staff to “calm his nerves.”

Herzog‘s alcohol level was at .263 and Dr. Phil said he had “never talked to a guest who was closer to death.”

There are several other allegations about substance abuse in the report.

While McGraw has not commented yet, Martin Greenberg, the show’s director of professional affairs, responded to the allegations.

Dr. McGraw has a very strong sense of trying to not exploit people,” he said. “Now it is a television show. These people volunteer to come on. They beg to come on. And he tries to treat them with respect … and to give them the opportunity to get help if they want to do that. It’s not a complicated formula.”

Dr. Phil Comments on Bruce Jenner Transition: 'He's Kind of Past His Prime'

Dr. Phil has spoken out about Bruce Jenner‘s reported transition while making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday evening (April 22).

“I was wondering if it breaks your heart that Bruce Jenner is going to speak to Diane Sawyer on Friday night instead of coming to your show,” Jimmy Kimmel asked the 64-year-old television host.

“It would be boring to talk to me about that,” Dr. Phil answered. “First off, I would say, ‘Look. If it’s what you want to do… do it! What the hell’s it matter what anybody else thinks?’ That would be my point.”

“You’re almost 80, what’s the point?” Dr. Phil added. “This is a theoretical exercise, right? I don’t know. He’s kind of past prime for like… right? I’ll tell you what. He’s a hell of a nice guy.”

Kelly Osbourne: Dr. Phil's New Correspondent!

Kelly Osbourne rests her fractured elbow in a sling as she arrives at London’s Heathrow airport from Los Angeles on Tuesday (March 23).

“It is hands down the most painful injury I have ever had!” the 25-year-old Brit has said. “To cut a long story short, I was trying to stop the dogs from fighting at my mum’s and managed to fracture my radial head.”

In related news, Kelly will be joining Dr. Phil as a special contributor starting TOMORROW (March 24).

Kelly is an excellent addition to our show because she’s experienced a lot of what many of our younger viewers may be going through,” Dr. Phil told ET. “She has dealt with drug addiction as well as addictions within her family. She’s also fought the battle with obesity, and the public scrutiny that often accompanies it. She is well-armed and up to the task of being our special contributor.”

“I am excited to be a part of Dr. Phil as a contributor for the show,” Kelly says. “It offers a great opportunity for me to bring a youthful perspective and opinion on the issues that affect our selves, our families and society as a whole, and I’m very honored to be a part of it… I really hope I can use my life experiences to do some good.”
