Boston Marathon Bomber's Death Sentence Reimposed by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is reinstating the death sentence for convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The justices voted 6-3 on Friday (March 4), agreeing with the Biden administration’s arguments that a federal appeals court was wrong to throw out the death sentence that a jury imposed on him for his role in the bombing that killed three people at the Boston marathon in 2013, via AP.

Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Speaks in Court For 1st Time - Read His Statements

The Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev spoke in court on Wednesday (June 24) before being formally sentenced to death.

According to WBZ-TV’s Jim Armstrong, the 21-year-old spoke to a room full of victims that were affected on the tragic day several years ago. After Dzhokhar spoke to the court, he was officially sentenced to death by execution.

“I am guilty of the bombing, let there be no lingering question about that,” Dzhokhar said. “After the bombing, I learned victims’ names and saw their faces.”

“I also wish more people had the chance to testify. I am sorry for the lives that I’ve taken, the sorrow I have caused.”

Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Sentenced to Death Penalty

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was found guilty on all 30 counts in the bombing at the Boston Marathon, has been sentenced to the death penalty by lethal injection.

The bombing killed three people, injured over 200, and resulted in a manhunt that lasted several days and ended in the death of Dzhokhar‘s older brother Tamerlan, who was also responsible for the terrorist attack.

The jury deliberated for more than 14 hours over three days to reach the decision over sentencing him to either life in prison or the death penalty. When the decision was read, Dzhokhar reportedly had no visible reaction to the news.

Boston Bomber Trial: Jury Rules Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Is Guilty

The court case of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bomber, is complete and the jury has deliberated and ruled that he is guilty.

The 21-year-old committed the heinous crime almost two years ago on April 15, 2013, which injured hundreds and killed three. The suspect has 30 counts against him, and 17 of the 30 counts face the possibility of the death penalty. He has been found guilty of 30 out of 30 charges. He was found guilty of all 17 possible death penalty charges.

The jury’s job was to decide if he was guilty or not guilty, and in the sentencing phase, the suspect will be eligible to either serve life in prison or potentially face the death penalty. The jury was presented with much evidence during the court case including videos of the bomb going off that were reportedly very bloody and horrific.

Dzhokhar committed the crime with his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died on April 19, 2013 after multiple gunshot wounds.
