Mindy Kaling dolls up while attending the 2013 PaleyFest Panel for her show The Mindy Project at the Saban Theatre on Friday (March 8) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 33-year-old actress was joined by her co-stars Zoe Jarman, Beth Grant, Ed Weeks, and Ike Barinholtz.

“Chris and I love acting together, we have good chemistry together and people wonder if anything is going to happen, but I can also see it being very avuncular, his relationship with Mindy and more like Liz Lemon and Jack in 30 Rock,” Mindy recently shared about her chemistry with co-star Chris Messina.

Mindy Kaling graces the cover of New York magazine‘s new issue, out on newsstands now!

Here’s what the 33-year-old The Mindy Project actress had to share with the mag:

On not wanting to be defined by her gender or skin color: “I never want to be called the funniest Indian female comedian that exists. I feel like I can go head-to-head with the best white, male comedy writers that are out there. Why would I want to self-categorize myself into a smaller group than I’m able to compete in?”

On her job as showrunner: “There have definitely been times when I’ve wished I could ask Tina Fey, ‘What do you … ? How do you … ?’ Because, like, all you’re doing is answering questions! If I could make a device where people could just intuit everything you are thinking—a little cable you plug into, like, a USB port, I would make a billion dollars.”

Fox will be pairing hit comedies New Girl and Raising Hope with newcomers The Mindy Project and Ben & Kate on Tuesday nights this fall.

Other members of the The Mindy Project cast that participated in the shoot included Chris Messina, Ed Weeks, Anna Camp, Stephen Tobolowsky, Amanda Setton, Zoe Jarman, and Ben & Kate stars Nat Faxon, Lucy Punch, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, and Echo Kellum.

The Mindy Project and Ben & Kate are scheduled to premiere on September 25 on Fox. Can’t wait to watch them!
