Ethan Hawke Says Starring In 'True West' Revival Is 'Very Meaningful' To Him!

Ethan Hawke visited The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday night (January 7) to talk all about his return to Broadway in the current revival of Sam Shepard‘s True West!

The 48-year-old Oscar-nominated actor revealed that he first saw the play when he was about 14-years-old and confessed, “It made me want to be an actor, or be involved in whatever they were doing. So to get the chance to do it now is very meaningful to me.”

Ethan has worked on numerous Shepard plays, including the Pulitzer Prize–winning Buried Child, but he reveres True West. “Buried Child is an amazing piece of literature but is hardly the card-carrying audience-pleaser that True West is,” Ethan said. “I said it!”

“He is also one of the great American poets we’ve ever had,” Ethan said of Shepard. “He had the swagger of a real cowboy and he had the brains to back it up.”

Currently in previews, True West officially opens at the American Airlines Theatre on January 24!

Ethan Hawke & Paul Dano Team Up for 'True West' Broadway Photo Call

Paul Dano and Ethan Hawke look sharp in blue at the True West Broadway photo call!

The 34-year-old Wildlife actor and the 48-year-old Blaze star joined forces at the event held at Roundabout Rehearsal Studio on Wednesday (December 05) in New York City.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Opposites attack in Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated play about two brothers with more in common than they think. Holed up in their mother’s California house, lowlife Lee (Ethan) and screenwriter Austin (Paul) wrestle with big issues—and each other. Order vs. chaos. Art vs. commerce. Typewriter vs. toaster…Sam’s rip-roaring classic returns to Broadway, gleefully detonating our misguided myths of family, identity and the American Dream.”

The first preview will take place on December 27, and opening night is set for January 24, 2019.

Glenn Close Is Proud to Be a Role Model for Young Women

Glenn Close proudly shows off her award while attending the Museum of the Moving Image Salute on Monday night (December 3) in New York City.

The legendary actress was honored at the event by both Christian Slater and Ethan Hawke, who attended with daughter Maya Hawke.

Glenn spoke with The Daily Journal at the event and said that she is comfortable being considered a role model for young women.

“I do. I do. Yes, I’m very proud of that. And, I think that has mattered too. I speak through my work,” she said. “I’m not somebody who has made a huge political stand. I really believe that art is vital for the soul and heart of our country and our culture. And I believe in positive contributions to our collective nervous system.”
